Dishonest actions by staff to gain a benefit by theft or deception have risen 41% in twelve months, according to CIFAS, anti-fraud organisation.
Dishonest bank staff are increasingly preying on their elderly customers, new fraud figures have shown.
CIFAS, an anti-fraud organisation whose members include most major banks and building societies, said that there had been an "alarming increase" in the level of fraud committed by employees, with a third of it involving the theft of cash from customer accounts.
"Many of these fraudsters steal from elderly and more vulnerable account holders," said Richard Hurley, from CIFAS. "The perpetrators' actions are as bad as muggers in the street."
Arjun Mehdi, Staff Fraud Adviser at CIFAS, said that the number of dishonest actions by staff to gain a benefit by theft or deception had risen 41pc in twelve months. He said that there was a trend for longer-serving staff to engage in fraud, after spending several years working out a bank's systems. "They systematically hit certain accounts knowing that they will not be noticed," he said.
Iranian scientists have already managed to enrich enough radioactive material to successfully produce not just one, but four nuclear bombs, Israel’s military intelligence chief has announced.
General Aviv Kochavi broke the news at a security conference on Thursday. The intelligence chief says he believes Iran would need a year from the word go to actually producing a crude device, and another year or two to manufacture a nuclear warhead that can be installed on a ballistic missile.
Kochavi also claimed that “Iran is very actively pursuing its efforts to develop its nuclear capacities, and we have evidence that they are seeking nuclear weapons."However, no actual evidence was produced or even referred to at the conference.
The Israeli Deputy PM added fuel to the fire, claiming that Iran has also succeeded in building a long-range missile capable of putting the US within its reach. Moshe Ya’alon, who had just returned from Washington where he discussed the Iran situation with President Obama’s administration, chose to echo Kochavi’s words of warning, saying “The Israeli government will stop Iran one way or another.”
Google quietly revealed earlier this month it will allow censorship in some countries of content on its Blogger service.
The move came shortly before Twitter announced it will allow foreign governments to censor specific Tweets.
Google said that users in some countries accessing the Blogger platform will be redirected to a country-specific Web addresses.
"For example, if you're in Australia and viewing [blogname].blogspot.com, you might be redirected [blogname].blogspot.com.au," Google explained.
The change will allow Google to comply with censorship requests on a "per country basis."
"Migrating to localized domains will allow us to continue promoting free expression and responsible publishing while providing greater flexibility in complying with valid removal requests pursuant to local law," Google wrote. Source
Submitted by Tyler Durden: Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke will testify at House Budget Committee (Chairman Paul Ryan, R-WI) full committee hearing on "The State of the U.S. Economy." The highlight of today's hearing will be watching Bernanke face his nemesis runner up, Paul Ryan, who will surely grill Blackhawk Ben with questions that are far more intelligent than the press corps could come up with during the last FOMC canned remark presentation.
