'Bush, Obama officials must be tried'

An Iraq war veteran tells Press TV Staff Sergeant Robert Bales is not the only person who should be tried but the officials in the Bush and Obama administrations should also face trial in Afghanistan for the crimes they have committed against innocent civilians.

The US army has confirmed the date for the arraignment of Staff Sergeant Robert Bales, accused of killing 16 Afghan civilians in March 2012. The army said in a statement on Tuesday that Bales will be arraigned in court at Joint Base Lewis-McChord outside Seattle on January 17 on charges of murdering the 16 Afghan civilians. The 39-year-old could face the death penalty if convicted in the March 11, 2012 massacre, in the district of Panjwaii in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar. According to a fact-finding mission set up by the Afghan parliament, at least 20 US soldiers were involved in the massacre of the civilians, including nine children.
