For those who might be on a very tight budget there may be ways to attend the conference for less than you might expect.
1. The hotel offers a suite with 2 queen beds and and a living room with a pullout couch bed. If someone was on a tight budget they could get two other roommates and the total cost per night would be a little over $40 a night. That's a great price and in a great hotel that offers free wifi, a fully equipped fitness center, a business center and more. You can make reservations here:

2. Most places in the country should be able to find a cheap flight for around $300 or a bit less. If that is beyond your budget you might want to consider driving and connect with others on your way to split gas and maybe room together. The AVFM forums might be a place to discuss this.
3. If you are very low on funds you might want to check around and see if there might be someone who would want to sponsor you to attend. Poke around a bit and see what you find. There may also be some work/scholarships for those willing to lend a hand in order to get a reduced fee for the conference ticket.
So if you got a room for

Drove 1200 miles round trip to the conference with two friends you might spend for gas....400 miles each @25mpg and $3.50 per gallon

Food costs, being very careful and buying sensible foods from a grocery store

Conference cost?
Add a little more and the cost for a trip is starting to sound reasonable.
