Here in Toronto the Lumbersexuals are starting to spread through the hipster neighborhoods along Queen Street, Kensington Market and Ossington, like a plague. These are places that are known as centers of urban culture yet they are starting to look like small towns with paper mills. Thanks to the sudden onslaught of men dressing like lumber jacks. And I even see some of them purchasing and driving around in vintage pickup trucks and walking around hound dogs that look like they belong in the country. About three or four years ago I noticed the hipster trend picking up steam Toronto. And then the men with real beards that had them for thirty or forty years started shaving them off around then. I asked one guy in his fifties why he was getting rid of his beard and he said that there were too many guys in skinny jeans and flannel shirts growing out beards and most of them have never picked up an ax or heavy tool in their entire life. And that both the lumbersexual and metrosexual are forms of male masculinity that came from the gay community. So he didn't want to project the appearance that he was into other dudes because I don't think his wife would like that. So I wonder if it was his wife that forced him to shave the beard because she was jealous of
other men approaching her husband? Wouldn't that be something? But I find it very interesting that increasingly the only men that are allowed to express their masculinity in our society without criticism are gay men. And if anyone criticizes them for it they can say, I'm gay are you attacking me for my sexuality and expression? I also think that an increasing number of straight males are adopting masculine gay appearance and keeping their sexual preference a secret so that they don't have to deal with criticism. Straight men are increasingly starting to look the same as gay males so they can express their masculinity, otherwise women might see them as being misogynists. Sandman
