Delusion, Trick & Fraud: 'Global warming nonsense lobby to collapse'

Canada has pulled out of the 1997 anti-global warming Kyoto protocol, saying the treaty is 'not working'. The departure comes a day after further climate talks in South Africa led to a new agreement, which is set to replace Kyoto by 2015. Piers Corbyn, the founder of the Weather Action Foundation, hopes Canada withdrawal will lead to the collapse of "useless" Kyoto protocol. Source

IMF slashes growth forecast for Greece

IMF report likely to fan financial market fears over debt default as Greece struggles to cope with austerity and recession

Poul Thomsen
Poul Thomsen, of the International Monetary Fund, arriving at the Greek finance ministry in Athens on Monday.
The International Monetary Fund slashed its growth forecasts forGreece and warned that ever-deepening recession was making it harder for the debt-ridden country to meet the tough deficit reduction targets under its austerity programme.
In a report likely to fan financial market concerns about a possible debt default, the regular health check by staff at the Washington-based Fund said the situation in Greece had "taken a turn for the worse".
Poul Thomsen, deputy director of the IMF's European department and its mission chief to Greece, said: "We have revised growth down significantly to -6% in 2011 and -3% in 2012. We expected 2011 to be an inflection point when the recession bottomed out, followed by a slow recovery. But the economy is continuing to trend downwards. The hoped for improvement in market sentiment and in the investment climate has not materialised." Source

Money is Fleeing the US Financial System

With growing concerns about the safety of the US financial system, today King World News interviewed internationally followed Martin Armstrong, Founder and Former Head of Princeton Economics International, Ltd..  At one point Armstrong’s firm rose to be perhaps the largest multinational corporate advisor in the world.
Armstrong had this to say about about corruption in the system, Given the corruption in the legal system, the regulators...The SEC, the CFTC, they’ve never prevented a single thing, nothingMadoff, MF Global, you name it they haven’t done it.  So I don’t know what we are paying these people for.  Corzine, I know from (an) inside source at the SEC, there were going to be rules to prevent them from doing exactly what they are doing.”
Martin Armstrong continues:
“Corzine went down (to the SEC), met with Mary Schapiro, she personally revoked it.  That’s information I have from inside the SEC.  So the whole thing is a joke.  When I speak to people on the (Capitol) Hill, they even say the SEC is bought and paid for.  If they (Congress) ask them (the SEC) for documentation, they resist.  Just like the Fed resisted opening the books to Ron Paul. Update: the three MF Global stoog... pardon, former executives, are now testifying

Tyler Durden's picture
Even though he has had several days in which to "review his notes", the follow up testimony by former MF Global CEO Jon Corzine to the Senate Agriculture Committee starting momentarily will be replete with "I don't recalls" and "to the best of my knowledge" and will be largely devoid of all content, suffice to say it was not his intention to break the main law of broker dealers- no commingling. It will be even worse because today he will be joined by MF global's CFO and COO as well, all of whom will be completely clueless once again, and needless to say, shocked, SHOCKED, that they stole billions from their clients. Watch the full webcast below.

From the Senate Agri Committee
On October 31, 2011, MF Global Holdings Ltd. declared bankruptcy – the eighth largest bankruptcy in U.S. history. Since then, federal officials have been unable to find a significant amount of the firm’s customer’s money. It is currently estimated that up to $1.2 billion in customer funds is missing. The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry has jurisdiction over the sort of commodity trading that MF Global was engaged in, and the hearing on December 13 will be a continuation of the Committee’s investigation into the firm’s bankruptcy. 'Bankers & bosses drive EU down Great Depression road'

The blame game continues in Europe over who's responsible for the high level split over a new EU fiscal agreement. The British Prime Minister, who slapped a firm "No" on the deal, said it lacked sufficient financial safeguards for the UK. But European Commission President, Jose Manuel Barroso, says Britain itself made compromise impossible by making demands that threatened the entire single market. Historian and author, Neil Faulkner, thinks that there was no agreement possible that would have pleased the British government just because there's no such thing as Britain. Source

Our decade from hell will get worse in 2012

As financial historian Niall Ferguson writes in Newsweek: “Double-Dip Depression We forget that the Great Depression was like a soccer match, there were two halves.” The 1929 crash kicked off the first half. But what “made the depression truly ‘great’ …began with the European banking crisis of 1931.” Sound familiar? Source/full story

Google unEarths image of secret US drone base in Nevada

Google Earth has published images of a secret US airfield in Nevada. The images indicate that the base is used to test and maintain unmanned drones. And now, the publication is fueling a debate about whether Google is compromising US security.

Aviation website Flight Global found the Yucca Lake airfield image on Google Earth. The images allowed Flight Global to write a detailed description of site, claiming a 5,200 foot (1,580 meter) asphalt runway, with MQ-1 Predator or MQ-9 Reaper Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) – also known as drones – being towed on the parking ramp. The image also shows four hangars, a parking lot and a security perimeter. Tim Brown, an imagery analyst with Globalsecurity.org, said that the hangars could accommodate up to 10-15 MQ-9 Reaper aircraft. Flight Global estimates that the base can accommodate approximately 80 employees plus some specialized drone maintenance facilities.
One piece of evidence suggests that the airfield is used to test the new RQ-170 Sentinel, a drone nicknamed the "Beast of Kandahar": a special clamshell hangar, used specifically to lodge the “Beasts,” can be seen at Yucca Lake.
The RQ-170 Sentinel is one of the most sophisticated drones in the American arsenal. It features high-definition cameras, sensors that can scan for nuclear armaments, and an advanced stealth shell to hide it from radar detection. The Iranian government claims it recently captured an RQ-170 Sentinel it alleges was being used by the United States to spy on Iranian nuclear activities.
Earlier images of the airfield showed other aircraft on the site – the Pilatus PC-12 and the Beechcraft King Air, both manufactured by Lockheed Martin. Lockheed Martin also manufactures some of the most advanced drones for the US military – the Polecat technology demonstrator and the RQ-170 Sentinel – which were tested at airfields on the same range.
It is not yet clear which US government agency uses the Yucca Lake airfield. The airfield is located on the heavily restricted Tonopah Test Range, which makes use of land formally belonging to the National Nuclear Security Administration, a division of the US Department of Energy. The airfield’s isolation from other sites on the range has prompted speculation that it may be a secret CIA testing spot for hardware and software for its own drone program. The Department of Energy also frequently leases its facilities to the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security.
According to archive images, the Yucca airfield was constructed around 2002. Two reports by the Department of Energy indicate that the base operates 4-6 UAV flights and 2-3 manned flights, over the dry Yucca lakebed at altitudes under 12,000 feet (3,650 meters), every day.
Google has already been the subject of controversy for publishing air base images. In 2009, images of the Shamsi airbase in Pakistan (taken in 2006) showed the presence of Predator drones, although the Pakistani government had previously said that the US did not base its drone operations in the country.
Journalist Russ Baker believes a national and international conversation must be had about the importance of privacy and national security.
Google’s function is to send satellites around the world – to map the world for us – and that’s what they're doing,” he noted.
But with so many secret locations across the US and around the globe, Google simply has no way of knowing about all of them. “They have to tell Google all their secret facilities first, and then ask them to go to great measures to secure them,” Baker told RT.
We see more and more conflict because governmentswant to be able to essentially pry into everyone’s lives and have no one prying into what they are doing." Source

Canada Pulls Out From Kyoto Protocol

Canada has announced it will formally withdraw from the Kyoto Protocol on Climate Change, becoming the first country to do so. It follows the treaty's five-year extension at a conference in Durban, South Africa.
Canada’s Environment Minister Peter Kent told a press conference on Monday that, “Kyoto, for Canada, is in the past.”
We are invoking Canada’s legal right to formally withdraw,” he said.
Kent stated that his country had no choice, given its current economic situation – going as far as to criticize the previous, Liberal government for economic damage allegedly caused by adhering to the treaty.
According to Prime Minister Stephen Harper's right-of-center Conservative government, the treaty would force Canada to pay penalties equivalent to US$13.6 billion if emissions were not reduced by the required amount by 2012.
To meet the targets under Kyoto for 2012 would be the equivalent of removing every car, truck, all-terrain vehicle, tractor, ambulance, police car and vehicle off of every kind of Canadian road,” said Kent.
While our government has taken action since 2006 to make real reductions in greenhouse gas emissions under Kyoto, Canada is facing radical and irresponsible choices if we are to avoid the punishing multi-billion-dollar payments,” he added.
The move has been slammed by the environmentalists.
It's a national disgrace. Prime Minister Harper just spat in the faces of people around the world for whom climate change is increasingly a life and death issue,” said Graham Saul of Climate Action Network Canada, as quoted by Reuters.
Canada says it would back a new global deal to cut greenhouse gas emissions, but insists it must cover all industrialized nations. These would have to include China, India and countries not party to Kyoto – such as the United States.
The agreement, signed in 1997, requires industrialized countries to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The Conservatives – who have close ties to Canada's energy sector – came to office in 2006, quickly making it clear they that for economic reasons, they would not stick to their Kyoto commitments.
Canada, the US’s largest supplier of oil and natural gas, is aiming to increase crude oil output from Alberta's oil sands – a plan requiring massive amounts of energy. Source

Obama calls on Iran to give back downed US drone

The Obama administration said Monday it has delivered a formal request to Iran for the return of a U.S. surveillance drone captured by Iranian armed forces, but is not hopeful that Iran will comply.

President Barack Obama said that the U.S. wants the top-secret aircraft back. "We have asked for it back. We'll see how the Iranians respond," Obama said during a White House news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Monday.
In an interview broadcast live Monday night on Venezuelan state television, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said nothing to suggest his country would grant the U.S. request.
"The Americans have perhaps decided to give us this spy plane," Ahmadinejad said. "We now have control of this plane."
Speaking through an interpreter, Ahmadinejad said: "There are people here who have been able to control this spy plane, who can surely analyze this plane's system also. ... In any case, now we have this spy plane."
Obama wouldn't comment on what the Iranians might learn from studying the downed aircraft. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said it's difficult to know "just frankly how much they're going to be able to get from having obtained those parts."
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Panetta said they're not optimistic about getting the drone back because of recent Iranian behavior that Clinton said indicated "that the path that Iran seems to be going down is a dangerous one for themselves and the region."
"We submitted a formal request for the return of our lost equipment as we would in any situation to any government around the world," Clinton told reporters at a State Department news conference with British Foreign Secretary William Hague.
"Given Iran's behavior to date we do not expect them to comply but we are dealing with all of these provocations and concerning actions taken by Iran in close concert with our closest allies and partners," she said.
Panetta said the request to return the drone was appropriate. "I don't expect that that will happen," he said. "But I think it's important to make that request."
Neither Obama nor Clinton would provide details of the drone request, but diplomatic exchanges between Washington to Tehran are often handled by Switzerland, which represents U.S. interests in Iran. The State Department said Monday that the Swiss ambassador to Iran met with Iranian foreign ministry officials last week but refused to say what they discussed.
Iran TV reported earlier Monday that Iranian experts were in the final stages of recovering data from the RQ-170 Sentinel, which went down in Iran earlier this month. Tehran has cited the capture as a victory for Iran and displayed the nearly intact drone on state TV. U.S. officials say the aircraft malfunctioned and was not brought down by Iran.
Despite the incident, Clinton said the administration and its allies would continue to push Iran to engage over its nuclear program while at the same time increasing pressure on the regime with new, enhanced sanctions.
"We obviously believe strongly in a diplomatic approach. We want to see the Iranians engage and, as you know, we have attempted to bring about that engagement over the course of the last three-plus years. It has not proven effective, but we are not giving up on it," she said.
Standing beside Clinton, Hague agreed.
"We're not giving up on engagement with Iran, but on a number of occasions Iran has behaved in a way in recent weeks and months which has intensified confrontation with the rest of the world," he said. "We have seen an increasing predilection for dangerous and illegal adventures on the part of at least parts of the Iranian regime."
Clinton and Hague referred to the storming of British diplomatic compounds in Tehran, allegations that Iran tried to arrange the assassination of the Saudi ambassador to the United States, Iran's ongoing support for militant groups and its continued defiance of demands to prove its nuclear program is peaceful. Angelo: I actually wish the world would unilaterally scrap nuclear weapons so sad to say I hope Iran gets the bomb soon so that the region might live in peace and avoid a repetition of Iraq and Libya... It seems to have worked for North Korea! What hypocritical bollox from our own western politicians and technocrats. We are surely devided and ruled by a bogus two party system with one head. If Ron Paul by some miracle was elected, could he really scrap the hundreds of US bases, immediately? What a happy day that would be and for the UK to follow suit!

Is the U.S. Economy Headed Toward a Crash?

"All the Speculators, all the Bankers...all the Financiers want Inflation" - Peter Schiff

The European Union's summit solution or no solution? Friday, markets were excited for a day, but now is it just back to reality? Moody's reiterates that its ratings for the eurozone are still negative, with a downgrade still in the card for a number of sovereigns, including, you guessed it, France. Sarkozy says the loss of a triple A (AAA) would not be "insurmountable," and that If the rating companies did "pull it, we'll face the situation coolly and calmly." Really? Maybe for Napoleon this is true, but in Latvia, depositors are already lining up to take their money out of banks, which proves that "cool and calm" is not always something that can be achieved simply by words alone. And this should concern France and the rest of the Eurozone, in light of reports like this latest one by the OECD, which warns that industrialized governments should expect to struggle with borrowing more than 10 trillion dollars this year as they remain at the mercy of the market's "animal spirits." And speaking of bank runs, it's the anniversary of one that started in the US in 1930, credited with bringing down the banking system. So what could stop that from happening today? While people talk about jobs, the deficit, the president...is this the silent threat that could bring down the economy? Peter Schiff of Euro Pacific Capital joins us to discuss all these issues. He is host of the Peter Schiff show, as well as author of many books including "Crash Proof," and "The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets." Source
