FaceBook: The Complete Forensic Post-Mortem

Tyler Durden's picture

While much has already been written on the topic of peak valuation, social bubbles popping, and the ethical social utility of yesterday's historically overhyped IPO, nobody has done an analysis of the actual stock trading dynamics as in-depth as the following complete forensic post-mortem by Nanex. Because more than anything, those tense 30 minutes between the scheduled open and the actual one (which just happened to coincide with the European close), showed just how reliant any form of public capital raising is on technology and electronic trading. And to think there was a time when an IPO simply allowed a company to raise cash: sadly it has devolved to the point where a public offering is a policy statement in support of a broken capital market, which however is fully in the hands of SkyNet, as yesterday's chain of events, so very humiliating for the Nasdaq, showed. From a delayed opening, to 2 hour trade confirmation delays, virtually everyone was in the dark about what was really happening behind the scenes! As the analysis below shows, what happened was at times sheer chaos, where everything was hanging by a thread, because if FB had gotten the BATS treatment, it was lights out for the stock market. Well, the D-Day was avoided for now, but at what cost? And how much over the greenshoe FaceBook stock overallotment did MS have to buy to prevent it from tumbling below $30 because as Reuters reminds us, "had Morgan Stanley bought all of the shares traded around $38 in the final 20 minutes of the day, it would have spent nearly $2 billion." What about the first defense of $38?  In other words: in order to make some $67 million for its Investment Banking unit, was MS forced to eat a several hundred million loss in its sales and trading division just to avoid looking like the world's worst underwriter ever? We won't know for a while, but in the meantime, here is a visual summary of the key events during yesterday's far less than historic IPO.

Worldwide protest movements: are they helping or hurting?

By Curt Williams:
Are the worldwide protests helping or hurting? That is the question.
As Alexander Haig once stated “they can protest all they want so long as they pay their taxes”. This statement is pretty telling in my opinion.
Now accompany that statement with the question, has protesting and hitting the streets really brought any change in policy, banking, wars etc.? Unfortunately, the answer clearly is no.
Let us take a look at some examples:
The Civil Rights Movement
The civil rights movement was a political movement for equality. Between 1950 and 1980 the movement took the form of campaigns of civil resistance.
The aim was to achieve change by means of nonviolent forms of resistance. But the campaign of “nonviolent forms of resistance” was accompanied, or followed, by civil unrest. In some cases armed rebellion.
When one thinks “civil rights movement” a few things probably comes to mind right away. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, sit-ins, and the hosing of black demonstrators, just to name a few.
I have a lot of respect for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and the numerous students that stood tall against oppression.
I want to make clear that I am questioning the effectiveness of demonstrating/protesting to bring about change. I am in no way saying that these individuals are “dumb” for the actions they took against oppression.

Gorba the Greek: Glasnost in Athens

By Richard Cottrell: Historians are likely to recall these interesting times as the tipping point of the fifty-year experiment to bring about a United Europe without firing a shot.
As is often the case with climatic disturbances, it is once again the affairs of a rather small country which bring greater powers into conflict.
In 1914, the Austro-Hungarian invasion of Serbia put a match to the powder keg of World War I. In 1939, Hitler’s lunge at Poland incited the even bigger replay.
Now it appears that Greece has acquired the means to topple the walls of Jericho, meaning the entire fabric of the new world order. Or at any rate, that is what we are led to believe by all the great organs of globalism. Of course these wild claims are nothing but pure sky-is-falling exaggerated nonsense but I repeat them for good reason.
This is to expose the hysteria presently raging around the future of the European monetary system, and specifically of course, the euro, for what it really is. Namely, a state of contrived panic that has very little, if anything at all, to do with the affairs of a minor Balkan state on the fringes of Europe.
There is currently a great deal of very typical Athenian drama surrounding the sudden emergence of a smiling young political rock star Alexis Tsipras, strolling about in the warm sunshine, tieless and relaxed in plain dark suit and smart white shirt, already elevated to the exalted status of the ‘Gorbachev of Greece.’

Creepy! U.S Dollar bills (5, 20,50,100) contains hidden pictures!

It surely seems like the U.S dollar bills shows a sort of chronology of events. Starting with the dollar bill foretelling what the new world order will be and then all the other sequentially showing how it all begins. This is amazing. The music is from "The Matrix""

Facebook's IPO bombs & "hot" tech co.s cook the books

All eyes seemed to be on Facebook's IPO today. But we look at some of these hyped up social media and gaming companies that have gone public and ask if they can get away with some choose-your-own-adventure accounting methods to boost profits. And back in March, our futures veteran Mark Melin told us MF Global was worth more to some entities dead than alive. Well now we know how much its carcass is worth to the legal team winding down the estate

The Face of Genocidal Eco-Fascism

By Azizonomics:
I am not exaggerating.
This is Finnish writer Pentti Linkola — a man who demands that the human population reduce its size to around 500 million and abandon modern technology and the pursuit of economic growth — in his own wordsHe likens Earth today to an overflowing lifeboat:
What to do, when a ship carrying a hundred passengers suddenly capsizes and there is only one lifeboat? When the lifeboat is full, those who hate life will try to load it with more people and sink the lot. Those who love and respect life will take the ship’s axe and sever the extra hands that cling to the sides.
He sees America as the root of the problem:
The United States symbolises the worst ideologies in the world: growth and freedom.
He unapologetically advocates bloodthirsty dictatorship:
Any dictatorship would be better than modern democracy. There cannot be so incompetent a dictator that he would show more stupidity than a majority of the people. The best dictatorship would be one where lots of heads would roll and where government would prevent any economical growth.
