German guilt causes continued support of apartheid death camp Israel: Merkel

Press TV: German Chancellor Angela Merkel says Berlin will continue to support Israel, despite Tel Aviv’s recent attacks on the Gaza Strip which left scores of men, women and children dead.

“Germany will always stand on the side of Israel on the issue (of security),” Merkel said on Saturday.

“Israel has not only the right but the duty to protect its citizens,” she added.

Merkel’s comments come just two days after Berlin abstained in a UN vote on an upgraded status for Palestinians.

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said in a statement on Thursday that Berlin had decided to abstain in the vote due to fears the UN resolution would complicate talks between Palestinians and Israelis.

“We did not take this decision lightly. Germany shares the goal of a Palestinian state. We have campaigned for this in many ways... but the decisive steps towards real statehood can only be the result of negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians,” he said. (He said, repeating the Israeli propaganda mantra aimed at avoiding conforming with international law requiring rights and lands to be returned to the Palestinian people.)

The International Monetary Fund said yesterday that it would not disburse funds in the proposed EU-IMF package for Greece unless the eurozone delivers on a bond “buy-back” scheme, which is deemed ‘crucial for restoring long-term viability in the country’.
The precedent being sought by the IMF/Washington is that the eurozone members will step up to the plate bigtime, and European Central Bank will become the de facto sovereign for all practical purposes. This has been coming for a while now, but the proposition that Greece is ‘viable’ without massive debt forgiveness is a cynical sham.
The point isn’t to make Greece viable, it is to use Greece as a sovereign, human debt cork.

Hacking network Anonymous declares cyber war on Syrian govt

RT: Anonymous have said they will shut down the Syrian governments websites around the world in response to Syria’s internet blackout. For the second day all internet services, mobile phones and many fixed line phones are out of action.
­A tweet on Friday from the group read, “Government of Syria cuts country’s internet access – anonymous goes on warpath.”
Anonymous quickly called their campaign Opsyria. At 02:00 am GMT on Friday they started removing all the Syrian government’s internet properties that remained online, after the country’s Web access was severed, they also targeted domains ran by pro-government sympathizers.
Some of the Syrian organizations and companies that have been hacked by Anonymous include Syrian Railways, the Syrian parliament, Syrian TV and the Syrian Embassy in China.
The hackers also managed to download 1GB of confidential memos and emails from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs including details about plane loads of cash from Russia and arms from Ukraine, which they have uploaded for public viewing.
Hacking by pro Syrian regime forces – who had previously targeted Al Jazeera and Reuters – has dried up in the last few days presumably because of the Syrian internet blackout, Security Week, an online internet security journal, reports.  Although, it is not possible to verify many of these claims because of the internet blackout.
