The Ultimate Threat In The Euro Bailout and Austerity Racket: War
By Wolf Richter: There have been waves of threats by Eurozone politicians to bully
people into accepting “whatever it takes” to keep the shaky construct of
the monetary union glued together. These threats peaked last year with disorderly default, and when that wasn’t enough, with the collapse of the Eurozone. But now, the ultimate threat has been pronounced: war.
It wasn’t an idle thought by a wayward parliamentarian on the radical fringe but a well-articulated statement by Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker who was, until January, the President of the Eurogroup that manages the political aspects of the euro. And he’d picked Europe’s largest magazine, Der Spiegel, to make it (excerpts here, rest behind pay wall).
He’d alluded to it before. Last August, as he was jabbering about Greece’s potential exit from the Eurozone, he lamented that “many Germans and the German media” talked about Greece as if it were “a people you couldn’t respect,” and that Greeks depicted Chancellor Angela Merkel as if she were “the heiress of the Nazis.” And then his big threat, albeit in veiled form: “What we thought had been buried long ago, very quickly rises again.”

In Just The Last Week In The Land Of The Free...
By Simon Black: Last Week In The Land Of The Free
It's a pretty sad state of affairs in the Land of the Free when they have to pass a law making it illegal for the government to assassinate its own citizens.
Yet that's exactly what's happening.
Late last week, US Senator Ted Cruz introduced Senate bill S.505, "A bill to prohibit the use of drones to kill citizens of the United States within the United States."
More than likely, this bill isn't going to go anywhere. It'll get shuffled around to various committees and be largely forgotten. But the fact that it was introduced shows just how far things have fallen in the US.
Again, do they really have to create a law to prevent the government from killing its own people?
Curiously, it's interesting that this particular legislation stops at outlawing the assassination of US citizens on US soil... as if the Griswolds on their European vacation are acceptable targets...

How "Crackpot" Central Bankers Are Destroying Society
Submitted by Tyler Durden: From Dylan Grice of Edelweiss Holdings
Would the real Peter and Paul please stand up?In a previous life as a London-based ‘global strategist’ (I was never sure what that was) I was known as someone who was worried by QE and more generally, about the willingness of our central bankers to play games with something which I didn’t think they fully understand: money. This may be a strange, even presumptuous thing to say. Surely of all people, one thing central bankers understand is money?
They certainly should understand money. They print it, lend it, borrow it, conjure it. They control the price of it… But so what? What should be true is not necessarily what is true, and in the topsy-turvy world of finance and economics, it rarely is. So file the following under “strange but true”: our best and brightest economists have very little understanding of economics. Take the current malaise as prima facie evidence.
Let me illustrate. Of the many elemental flaws in macroeconomic practice is the true observation that the economic variables in which we might be most interested happen to be those which lend themselves least to measurement. Thus, the statistics which we take for granted and band around freely with each other measuring such ostensibly simple concepts as inflation, wealth, capital and debt, in fact involve all sorts of hidden assumptions, short-cuts and qualifications. So many, indeed, as to render reliance on them without respect for their limitations a very dangerous thing to do. As an example, consider the damage caused by banks to themselves and others by mistaking price volatility (measurable) with risk (unmeasurable). Yet faith in false precision seems to us to be one of the many imperfections our species is cursed with.
RESOURCE WARS: All Quiet on the Erdogan Front
The Slog: Greek
Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos and his Turkish opposite number
Ahmet Davutoglu aren’t getting along too well. It is the age-old issue
between Greece and Turkey: getting the Turks to recognise Greece’s right
to an exclusive economic zone (EEZ) on the Aegean Sea, and persuading
Ankara that Greek islands close to Turkey are called Greek on account of
being owned by Greece.
It was only very recently that Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras went to Turkey to make soothing noises in public with Recep Erdogan (left), but the latter is a confirmed expansionist who’d like Cyprus back, never mind the Greek islands off his coast.
Yesterday, Avramopoulos told Greek media that “Nobody should doubt our willingness and determination to defend this [EEZ]. International law is our gospel.” One somehow can’t see this one being settled quickly.
Erdogan continues to be an inflexible pest in the region. Last week, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon criticised his reference to Zionism being simply a form of fascism. “Tt was not only wrong, but contradicts the very principles on which the Alliance of Civilisations is based” said Ban Ki-Moon’s office afterwards.
What the Turkish leader actually said was “Zionism, fascism and Islamaphobia are crimes against humanity”.

French Industrial Production Tumbles as Depression Looms
By Mark Deen: French industrial production fell
in January as Europe’s second-largest economy teetered on the
brink of its third recession in four years.
Output from factories, mines, utilities and the construction industry fell 1.2 percent in the month from December, national statistics office Insee said in an e-mailed statement. Economists had expected a 0.2 percent drop, according to the median of 25 estimates gathered by Bloomberg News.
The drop underlines the slowdown in the French economy at the start of the year. Since then, factory managers have reported improved orders as global demand recovers even as President Francois Hollande’s budget cuts crimp domestic spending.
“Business surveys suggest a contraction in January,” said Pierre-Olivier Beffy, chief economist at Exane BNP Paribas in London. “The rebound in export orders gives a ray of hope for the spring.”
France slipped back into recession in the first half of last year for the first time since the first quarter of 2009. After shrinking 0.2 percent in the final quarter of 2012, gross domestic product will shrink 0.1 percent in the current quarter before returning to growth in the three months through June, according to the median forecast of 13 gathered by Bloomberg.
Sentiment among manufacturing executives climbed for a third month in February, the Bank of France said last week. The central bank’s services index, which is more closely correlated with domestic demand, fell.

US 'School' now offering counseling to kids upset by strawberry-tart gun!
By Jon Rappoport: It’s called doubling down. First, a
teacher at the Park Elementary School in Baltimore flips out, because
7-year-old Josh Welch bites his strawberry tart, trying to make it look
like a mountain—but it ends up looking (sort of) like a gun.
The teacher reports Josh, who is then suspended for two days.
Now, an assistant principal at the school has sent a letter to parents offering counseling to kids who may have been upset by the incident. I kid you not.
“…If your children express that they are troubled by today’s incident…our school counselor is available to meet with any students who have the need to do so…”
What happens when a little kid shows up in the counselor’s office and says he’s angry at the lunatic teacher who upbraided Josh Welch?
Does the school suspend that little kid, too?? Does the counselor try to convince the kid he was really upset because he saw a danish bitten into a few right angles?
“You see, Jimmy, this is classic case of displacement. You think you’re bothered by the teacher. But really, it was that tart. Do you get it? Your agitation may be sign of ADHD. I’m going to refer you to a psychiatrist. He can give you medicine. It’ll make you feel better.”

Number of gun companies refusing to sell to US gov’t entities restricting gun rights triples in just two weeks
By Madison Ruppert: When Brent Daggett originally reported on firearm companies refusing to sell their products to government entities enforcing what they see as gun control laws that endanger our Second Amendment right to bear arms for End the Lie, the number of companies was quite small.
That has radically changed recently with the number tripling in just two weeks. Now some 124 companies have joined the fight against restrictive gun laws according the Police Loophole, a website established to track “companies that have taken the step to publicly announce that they will not sell items to states, counties, cities, and municipalities that restrict their citizens’ rights to own them.”
The number continues to rise and according to Gregory Gwyn-Williams, Jr. of CNS News, “In just two weeks, the number of companies participating in what has been named the ‘Firearms Equality Movement,’ has more than tripled from 34 companies to 118.”
The number has now swelled to 124, although it is unclear where Gwyn-Williams, Jr. obtained the 118 number for his March 9 report since it should have been 123 on March 9, according to the Police Loophole’s dates.
Barrett summed up the movement well in writing, “Barrett opposes those who are illegally disarming the American public from their efficient arms and creating superior armed elitist government agencies.”
The most recent company to join the fray, C. and H. Arms, revealed their decision in a Facebook post.
“Even though we love to support our nations law enforcement agencies,” C. and H. Arms wrote, “We will not sell any item to any agency that restricts said item to its civilians.”
