By Michael Snyder: Every
night Americans prove that they are willing to do absolutely horrible
things to their fellow human beings. Most of the time, we never even
hear about the sick and twisted things that happen on the side streets
and dark alleys of America. Once in a while a particularly twisted
story will get picked up by the news, but usually most Americans are
pretty much able to isolate themselves from the depravity that is
happening all around them. Unfortunately, the social decay that is
eating away at our society like cancer is spreading. It is getting
harder and harder for average Americans to keep the darkness at bay.
When it suddenly reaches out and touches your family, it can be
absolutely shocking. America is not the kind, loving and gentle place
that is portrayed in our movies and on our television shows. The sad
truth is that America is becoming colder and meaner with each passing
day. Yes, there are definitely some Americans that are kind and
compassionate, but they are in the minority. As our economic decline
becomes even more severe, the hearts of even more Americans are going
to grow cold. And people with cold hearts can do some absolutely
terrible things. The following are 10 disturbing tales from the side
streets and dark alleys of America...

GREEK LESSON: Never try to reason with rats on the Titanic
The Slog: I was just on ITalkfm discussing
with bright-bint radio jock Pippa Jones about today’s gold slump and
global market sell-off. Pippa quite rightly pointed out that there
didn’t seem to be any sense in the manipulation being tried on by the
élites of various shapes and sizes across the world, as it would
pauperise the consumers who are already struggling. I ended my slot by
advising that when a rat is cornered, the last thing one should expect
is rational behaviour.
The application of that rule to Greece at the moment supports the parallel admirably. Andrew Watt in Social Europe Journal has just posted a brilliant analysis of German austerity policies in ClubMed. This extract is suitably representative:
‘Jörg Asmussen is either an utter fool or a complete knave. And as ECB Director and before that deputy minister to a series of German finance ministers he has climbed the meritocratic pole. (By the way, he is also a member of the SPD.) It is not just that he supports contractionary fiscal policy and the weakening of labour market institutions in the teeth of an economic downturn.

Stunning Volume On Gold & Silver Smash In Suspect Trading
William Kaye: “It’s the end
game of a fantastic manipulation of the markets. I’m looking at my
screen now as we talk, Eric. I’m in L.A. (Los Angeles), but we are
still in Asian (trading) time with London just coming in at the moment,
and we’ve traded over 94,000 contracts.
So passing the baton to London we will have already traded 100,000 contracts. A normal night (during Asian trading) would be 20,000, to put that in perspective. So the question is, who is selling all of these contracts at levels that are multi-year lows? Who’s so keen to sell?....

“And if you need to
sell, why are you selling at the worst time of day? Why are you selling
in Asian time, which is always the thinnest section of trading? Why
don’t you wait for London and Chicago to take over?
And the answer is very obvious: These markets are clearly and blatantly being manipulated.

UK Supreme Court quashes demonstrably "irrational" "disproportionate" and "unlawful" Govt. sanctions on Iranian commercial bank.
On Wednesday, the highest British court ruled that the UK government was wrong to have imposed sanctions on the Iranian bank in 2009, and that the Treasury directive was "irrational" and "disproportionate."

Want to keep up with the Kardashians? Have a radioactive baby
By Christina Consolo: Thanks to the wonders of the real-time social media age, celebrity
watchers the world over have been able to enjoy every second of Kim
Kardashian’s pregnancy in
excruciating detail. From her obvious disdain for her pregnant body to
her sudden enthusiasm for eating her own placenta to maintain her
youthfulness, it’s all been put out for the world to see.
But this article isn’t as much about Kim K, as it is the blatant disregard for the health of her baby. Not only on the part of Kim and her family, but even her own now-famous obstetrician that has appeared several times on her reality show.
The amount of flying Kardashian did while pregnant has been glaringly obvious to the radiation researcher. All this flying didn’t even register as a blip with her clueless doctor as we now know, from yesterday’s episode of “Keeping up with the Kardashians: Season 8“. Instead, he just stroked her ego and managed his TV presence, while he should have been concerned with the health of her child in light of a severe stomach infection which occurred during a transatlantic flight, one of many Kim made during her much-publicized pregnancy.

UK ECONOMY: MANSION HOUSE SPEECHES & TREASURY MORONS
Growing proof that none of them know what they’re doing….except robbing us
The Slog: Following last night’s reference to selling Lloyds Bank in
the Mansion House address from the Chancellor – in which almost nobody
noticed the bailin reference – The Slog has gone back into the Commons
archives to look more closely at whether those in charge know what
they’re doing when it comes to selling State Banks. It’s disturbing
reading….and highlights a lack of agreement about what to do generally.
It is the sticky lot of the regular socio-economic commentator to try
and work out – almost daily, in fact – whether those in charge of the
world are pernicious, or incompetent, or both. Last night, Bright Thing
George Osborne – he of Oxbridge and Westminster lineage – stood up at
the Mansion House to make the traditional speech about Britain’s fiscal
and economic position. Quite early on in this epic, the Draper dropped
this little grenade into the mix:
“High-street
banking will be ring-fenced so that taxpayers are better protected when
things go wrong. We will be able to bail in creditors when a bank fails
rather than turning to the public purse.”
