But a few years ago, scientists from Israel’s Technion Institute of Technology conducted an experiment which put to rest this erroneous myth.
Based on their research, it turns out that goldfish have a memory closer to FIVE months… which seems to be quite a bit longer than most fund managers, bankers, and politicians.
I say this because it wasn’t even FOUR months ago that banks in this country forcibly locked people out of their bank accounts.
This single event, perhaps more than anything else, highlighted the rot within Europe: a bankrupt government was being compelled by supranational powers to bail out an insolvent banking system at depositor expense.
Of course, this move was quickly followed by capital controls, which are still in place today. Yet based on this summer’s financial euphoria, it’s as if none of this ever happened.

Cash for gold is a bad deal, warns broker

DBP: Consumers are losing up to 80 per cent of their jewellery’s potential value by selling it for cash to gold firms, the broker and precious metals specialist Goldcore has warned.

A survey of cash for gold firms operating in Ireland, found that consumers are losing 15 per cent of the value of their gold when they sell their gold to get euros.

When the mark-up charged by jewellery retailers is also factored in, this figure rises to approximately 80 per cent.

Thus a ring originally bought for €1,000 will have a gold value of €250 but return only €212.50 for a seller.

The survey was carried out by Dublin-based Goldcore.

“Consumers need to be careful when selling their gold jewellery for euros,” says Mark O’Byrne, Research Director of Goldcore. “While it may seem an attractive proposition in the short-term due to the current economic environment, when you factor in the original purchase price, you can see that Irish consumers are getting a very bad deal overall."

And into this mess, George Osborne has injected his usual form of Titanic deckchair rearrangement.

Because our ‘leaders’ have had to secretly resort to a hotch-potch of emergency generators for public buildings, hospitals and so on, the Government is set to make a windfall profit of hundreds of millions of pounds out of a lucrative scam. This will sell power from thousands of the emergency diesel generators it owns to the National Grid. The cash will come from using them to guard against the times when the wind is too low to drive the expanding fleet of wind turbines, so staving off widespread blackouts.
Public buildings, including NHS hospitals, prisons, Army barracks and RAF bases, police and fire headquarters, schools and council offices equipped with emergency generators are to be asked to make them available on 20-minute standby to back-up the grid when supply is short. For this, they will be paid premium rates, soon to rise to the equivalent of £600 per Megawatt hour (MWh) of electricity produced.

Apparently other Americans also recognize that the sources of racism are different today from what they were in the past. According to a recent Rasmussen poll, 31 percent of blacks think that most blacks are racists, while 24 percent of blacks think that most whites are racist.

The difference between these percentages is not great, but it is remarkable nevertheless. After all, generations of blacks fought the white racism from which they suffered for so long. If many blacks themselves now think that most other blacks are racist, that is startling.

The moral claims advanced by generations of black leaders — claims that eventually touched the conscience of the nation and turned the tide toward civil rights for all — have now been cheapened by today’s generation of black “leaders,” who act as if it is all just a matter of whose ox is gored.

Even in legal cases involving terrible crimes — the O.J. Simpson murder trial or the charges of gang rape against Duke University students — many black “leaders” and their followers have not waited for facts about who was guilty and who was not, but have immediately taken sides, based on who was black and who was white.
