By Wolf Richter: For years it seemed nothing could slow down the tsunami of junk debt. Yield-desperate investors, driven to near insanity by iron-fisted central-bank interest-rate repression, were holding their nose and closing their eyes while grabbing the riskiest paper under the crappiest conditions from the bottom of the barrel in their no-holds-barred chase to get a tiny little bit of extra yield.
So last week, French cable TV company Numericable, a subsidiary of multinational cable and telecom company Altice, sold $7.78 billion and €2.25 billion of junk bonds, an all-time record. Insatiable demand allowed the company to sell this stuff at irrationally low yields, given the risks, with some notes yielding as little as 5%. The deal blew past the prior record, Sprint’s sale in September of $6.5 billion in junk bonds. The funds will be used to fund the acquisition of its French competitor, SFR.
That was April 23. But now cracks in the most malodorous corners of the junk debt bubble have appeared.
Investors had gone on a feeding frenzy and poured money into mutual funds that specialize in “leveraged loans” whose “high yield,” if you ignored the risks, made them relatively attractive in the zero-interest-rate environment that the Fed and other central banks have inflicted on the land. These mutual funds, endowed with conservative-sounding names and glossy charts, were marketed to retail investors. And retail investors poured money into them, and fund managers went out to blow it on leveraged loans. Why? Because it was their job.

I like talking to people, like debating with people and just generally shooting the shit.
I like asking questions of people to gauge their responses to things.
For example I recently asked a women if husbands are at the mercy of their wives and she said, “My husband has nothing to fear”.
So I asked if you decided to make him leave, could you and she said no she’d never do something like that.
So I said so if you really really wanted to you could.
I suggested if she went to An Garda Síochána and made a complaint of domestic abuse would she be believed?
Then asked if he did the same thing would he be believed?
So I got from that that her husband was at her mercy.
I’ve asked others as well and the response is always the same, yes husbands/boyfriends are at the mercy of their partners.
Thus far I have a 100% track record at getting the response I expect, which is that men have no privilege which can be determined at any stage.

And therefore, in order to bolster the status of the state of Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people, I intend to submit a basic law that will anchor this status,” he said.
Netanyahu stressed that the move is vital as Israel’s legitimacy is “under a constant and increasing assault from abroad and at home.”
The Israeli prime minister first proposed the issue last week, drawing criticism from his political rivals, including Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, who voiced opposition to any law that gives “superiority” to the Jewish nature of Israel over its democratic values.
Palestinians fear that the move would prompt even more discrimination against Palestine's Arab minority and contradict any right of return for the Palestinian refugees from wars fought since 1948 to the occupied territories.
