Why Ridiculous Official Propaganda Still Works
By CJ Hopkins: For students of official propaganda, manipulation of public opinion, psychological conditioning, and emotional coercion, it doesn’t get much better than this. As Trump and his army of Goldman Sachs guys, corporate CEOs, and Christian zealots slouch toward inauguration day, we are being treated to a master class in coordinated media manipulation that is making Goebbels look like an amateur. This may not be immediately apparent, given the seemingly risible nature of most of the garbage we are being barraged with, but once one understands the actual purpose of such official propaganda, everything starts to make more sense.
Chief among the common misconceptions about the way official propaganda works is the notion that its goal is to deceive the public into believing things that are not “the truth” (that Trump is a Russian agent, for example, or that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, or that the terrorists hate us for our freedom, et cetera). However, while official propagandists are definitely pleased if anyone actually believes whatever lies they are selling, deception is not their primary aim.
The primary aim of official propaganda is to generate an “official narrative” that can be mindlessly repeated by the ruling classes and those who support and identify with them. This official narrative does not have to make sense, or to stand up to any sort of serious scrutiny. Its factualness is not the point.

The Women & Equalities Select Committee Is Virtue Signalling
...calling for evidence over concerns workplaces
are not providing support to working fathers.
are not providing support to working fathers.
By Mike Buchanan, J4MB: Interesting. But doubtless the committee’s final report will say workplaces ‘should’ do more for working fathers. Reflections:
1. This is transparent virtue signalling, appearing to show concern for fathers, whilst not diverting any state resources to them. A double win for the state, and for this committee, to which Philip Davies has just been appointed. Maybe his appointment was the spur for this move, which is nothing more nor less than propaganda.
2. It utterly ignores the fact that organizations are already reeling under the ‘support’ provided to working mothers. In the state sector, taxpayers – men, mainly – pay for the consequent inefficiency and ineffectiveness, while service users suffer – the NHS is but the most obvious example at the moment – while in the private sector one consequence of the inefficiency and ineffectiveness is loss of competitiveness, a concept alien to most politicians, including the dire Maria Miller, the Conservative MP who chairs the Women & Equalities Select Committee.

In Stunning Pair Of Interviews, Trump Slams NATO And EU, Threatens BMW With Tax; Prepared To "Cut Ties" With Merkel
By Tyler Durden: In two separate, and quite striking, interviews with Germany's Bild (paywall) and London's Sunday Times (paywall), Donald Trump did what he failed to do in his first US press conference, and covered an extensive amount of policy and strategy, much of which however will likely please neither the pundits, nor the markets.
Among the numerous topics covered in the Bild interview, he called NATO obsolete, predicted that other European Union members would join the U.K. in leaving the bloc and threatened BMW with import duties over a planned plant in Mexico, according to a Sunday interview granted to Germany’s Bild newspaper that will raise concerns in Berlin over trans-Atlantic relations. Furthermore, in his first "exclusive" interview in the UK granted to the Sunday Times, Trump said he will offer Britain a quick and “fair” trade deal with America within weeks of taking office to help make Brexit a “great thing”. Trump revealed that he was inviting Theresa May to visit him “right after” he gets into the White House and wants a trade agreement between the two countries secured “very quickly”.

*The United States and Russia each possess enough nuclear weapons to destroy all life on earth many times over.
*Pentagon officials say the cold war with Russia is for profit and bureaucracy.
*When there was danger of peace breaking out in Syria, the U.S. military acted to prevent it, apparently against the will of President Obama.
*The U.S. facilitated a coup in Ukraine, characterized a secession vote in Crimea as an invasion and seizure by force, made unsubstantiated claims about the shooting down of an airplane, opened a missile base in Romania, started building a missile base in Poland, moved more troops and equipment into Eastern Europe than seen since World War II, dropped all pretense that the enemy provoking all this was Iran, and spread the word through endless repetition that Russia was threatening Europe (even though Russia, for all its real crimes and offenses, including bombing Syria, was not threatening Europe).
*The U.S. so-called intelligence so-called community put out the word that Russia had hacked Vermont's electricity grid - a story it had simply made up.
US Watched ISIS Rise In Syria And Hoped To ‘Manage’ It - Kerry On Leaked Tape
By Philip Weis: Last fall Secretary of State Kerry met privately with anti-Assad Syrian activists at the U.N. The meeting was secretly taped, and you can listen to the tape here:
The New York Times got a hold of the tape back in September and wrote a story about it. So did CNN. More on their accounts later. The thrust of the conversation was the mutual frustration of Kerry and the Syrians that Bashar al-Assad was still in power and able to commit atrocities with the support of the Russians, who don’t adhere to international law the way we Americans do. I’d recommend listening to the whole tape; but the conversation went something like this: The anti-government Syrians complained we aren’t helping enough. Kerry and his Jewish associates said we and the Saudis and Qatar and Turkey had provided huge amounts of aid to the rebels, who unfortunately were sort of aligned with extremists.
