Gazprom Declares Force Majeure, Will Halt Gas Flows To Germany Indefinitely

Letter to "European customer" in question is Germany...

By Tyler Durden: Already days before the July 22 European "Doomsday" when the scheduled Russian 10-day maintenance of the crucial Nord Stream pipeline to Germany is slated to end - but which was thrown into deep doubt given Gazprom recently said it can no longer guarantee its "good functioning" due to crucial turbines being previously held up in Canada related to sanctions - the Russian energy giant has declared Force Majeure to one major European customer. 

Simply put, Gazprom declared extraordinary and extreme circumstances to void itself from all contractual obligations to this customer, thus the gas will stop flowing indefinitely, as Reuters reports in a breaking development Monday, "Russian gas export monopoly Gazprom has declared force majeure on gas supplies to Europe to at least one major customer starting June 14, according to the letter seen by Reuters." The letter is dated July 14. "It said the force majeure measure, a clause invoked when a business is hit by something beyond its control, was effective from deliveries starting from June 14,"

By Hanin A. Elholy: One afternoon a few years ago, when poet Mosab Abu Toha sat down at his desk to write, he heard one of his young sons cry out.

“Come and look!” Yazan said. “There’s a rocket flying out there!”

Mosab went outside to check, but, looking up at the sky, he saw that it was only a cloud. He reassured his son that they were safe, that it was not a rocket.

“Clouds are never confused for rockets by kids, except here,” Mosab said in late June of this year, during an interview at his home in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya.

Recalling this moment, he said it’s the kind of situation that motivates him to keep writing.

Satellite Imagery Shows Global Crop Declines - Except For Russia And China

By Tyler Durden: Infrared satellite imagery designed to measure moisture levels and the health of farmlands suggests that staple crops such as wheat are in poor condition and in sharp decline among major exporters including the Ukraine, the US and India.  Two countries do have bumper crops so far though; namely Russia and China.  

It is hard to say which governments and institutions monitor this data, but a few months ago a multitude of political leaders and global banks issued simultaneous warnings of a “global food shortage” and an impending crisis.  Such institutions included the IMF, World Bank, the BIS and even the White House.  So far, a perfect storm of stagflation, supply chain disruptions and poor weather conditions have combined to disrupt food production around the world. 

Price inflation due to central bank stimulus measures has been enough to do incredible damage to the many national economies, but a single bad year for crops on top of this could spell disaster.
