Authored by Kyle Anzalone: After nearly two decades, President George W. Bush’s plan to put the Aegis Ashore missile system in Poland was achieved this week. The system is capable of firing offensive missiles, and is viewed as a serious national security threat by Russia. 

The base is located in Redzikowo, Northern Poland, near the Baltic coast. During the base’s opening ceremony, Polish President Andrzej Duda said, "The whole world will see clearly that this is not Russia’s sphere of interest anymore…From the Polish point of view, this is strategically the most important thing."

Since the base was announced by Bush, Washington has asserted that the purpose of installing the missile defense system in Poland, and a second in Romania, was to protect Europe from Iranian missile attacks. 

However, the launchers that fire the Aegis interceptors can also fire offensive Tomahawk missiles. Previously, the US fielded a variant of the Tomahawk that was capable of delivering a nuclear warhead. The Kremlin views the presence of the launchers in Eastern Europe as a strategic threat to Russia. 

As the base was under planning and construction, Russian President Vladimir Putin pressed multiple American presidents not to deploy the Aegis Ashore systems in Poland and Romania.

Goeglein: Several years ago, after a particularly violent weekend in Chicago, then-Mayor Rahm Emmanuel, said: “This may not be politically correct, but I know the power of what faith and family can do. ... Our kids need that structure. ... I am asking ... that we don’t shy away from a full discussion about the importance of faith and family to develop and nurture character, self-respect, a value system, and a moral compass that allows kids to know good from bad and right from wrong.”

Emmanuel’s plea for a broader discussion indicates that something must be truly amiss. And it is, as a new study directed by Nicholas Zill for the Institute for Family Studies indicates.

Looking at cities in Ohio, Zill found that there was a much crime rate in cities where two-parent families were in the minority. For instance, only 44 percent of mothers in Springfield, Ohio, were married during the period of 2018–2022. The percentage was even worse in Cleveland with only 33 percent being married, and in Youngstown, which reported only 32 percent were married. Cincinnati fared marginally better at 46 percent.

In contrast, in Cleveland Heights, 63 percent of mothers were married and in New Albany, Ohio, 91 percent were.

Despite everything that has transpired since the dawn of this century, despite the Tea Party movement during the Ron Paul years, despite the ubiquitous bumper stickers pasted to the vehicles of conservatives that said, “I don’t believe the mainstream media,” today’s evangelicals and conservatives are still trapped in the artificial left-right paradigm.

Republicans: Good. Democrats: Bad. That’s everything you need to know.

But think about this: During the first 24 years of this 21^st century, we’ve had 12 years of Democrat presidents in the White House and 12 years of Republican presidents in the White House. Tell me, what difference has it made? No matter who was president, America continued to fight Israel’s wars, play the role of the world’s policeman, bully foreign governments (including political assassinations), build its global empire and steal minerals and oil from foreign countries. America’s national debt continued to rise exponentially, deficit spending continued to rise exponentially, the surveillance/police state continued to expand and the economic wellbeing of average working families continued to deteriorate.
