What do you think? Well, thanks for your questions Ian. The thing to know about this movie is that it has to be taken into a greater context of car racing films. The first great car racing film in my opinion is Rebel Without a Cause. I watched this film back in university for my popular culture class. And what I found interesting was James Deans' fathers character in that film. He wears an apron throughout most of the film and appears to be beaten down by his own wife. This film made the statement weather consciously or unconsciously about how bad living in suburbs was for men in the 1950s. And how cars were to some extent an escape from the reality of the 1950s. Young people needed mobility to get away from the issues their parents faced in suburbia. James Deans father was the ultimate mangina and showed the domestication of 1950s males. As for me I grew up in the nineteen eighties you had video games like Sega outrun and my favorite one called Street Rod which came out in 1989. In Street Rod you could customize your car and drag race against computer opponents for pink slips. The two main characters in Two Lane Blacktop don't really follow definitive plot. They are just out on their own pursuing their drag racing passion and they seem to be floundering in life. This film also evokes the idea that there's still a wild west out there and instead of horses it has more to do with cars or hot rods. I'm going to cover that in an upcoming video called mantopia. The shootout in the wild west was replaced by the drag race in the United States in the 20s century and especially if it was a race for pink slips. Racing for car ownership is considered like racing for your manhood. Even the symbolism of a pink slip is interesting. When a man gets a pink slip at work he's basically having his manhood handed to him. He's having his manhood questioned. But if a man races another man for car titles or pink slips and he loses the race and has to hand over his pink slip to the other guy. And as well all know in many cases it's the car gets you the girl. So if you lose your pink slip when you lose your car you lose your ability to attract a woman. And if you receive a pink slip at work then your ability to be a provider is questioned and you might end up losing your wife or girlfriend. And look at the typical language used to describe cars. Their called hot rods. And losing a pink slip is like losing a pussy pass.
Telling the truth has become a revolutionary act, so let us salute those who disclose the necessary facts.
