By Dublin Eileen: The Detroit Water Brigade have landed in Dublin ahead of the major anti water charges assembly which hopes to completely surround the Dail (Irish Parliament) and remain in place for a number of hours. Ireland pays for it’s water supply via central taxation under an EU exemption which is due for renewal on Jan 1 2015. Irish Water is a Private Ltd Co which the Irish government set up as an off balance sheet SPV in order to break Eu rules, set out in the fiscal compact treaty, which bans member states from borrowing in excess of 3% debt to GDP ratio.

Detroit Water ‘campaigner Justin Wetes outlined the struggle against water charges in Detroit saying that while privatisation was banned, bonds had been sold to the private sector to the extent that 46 percent of the utility’s revenue now went to pay back interest on those bonds’.
A group of Irish Musicians (NOT bono) have launched a great number to promote the Dec 10th demonstration which is backed by all major Trade Unions, community groups, some political parties and the Irish Defense Forces veterans who plan to march in full uniform, medals and honours on the day.
