The Assault We Ignore

A presentation given by James Chegwidden Barrister on 17th September 2013 at Keele University, Staffs, U.K. to the Genital Autonomy conference "Children's rights in Europe: recent developments". The presentation covers the current law surrounding infant male genital mutilation 'circumcision' in the U.K.

Michael Glass This [above] article has been about the circumcision of children and babies. However, there is another issue, the forced circumcision of men. This is a widespread human rights abuse that is documented in my article: "The forced circumcision of men" jme.bmj.com/content/early/2013/09/06/medethics-2013-101626.abstract or jme.bmj.com/content/suppl/2013/09/06/medethics-2013-101626.DC1/medethics-2013-101626supp.pdf
The International Commission of Jurists has recognised that the forced circumcision of men is an inhumane act.. However, others have urged that the forced circumcision of men should be regarded as a form of sexual violence akin to rape.
I would urge those who are concerned about the morality of circumcision to recognise that the forced circumcision of men and older children is a serious problem, and to push for those who forcibly circumcise men to be branded as sex offenders. This would help to stigmatise those who commit this form of sexual violence on others.
