"People have an altogether unrealistic view about what government can do, they basically believe that there is no human misfortune that can't be cured with enough intelligence and money. That is as we have learnt to our cost an expensive illusion. Undoubtedly the media have contributed to the mood of fear. ...Government messaging is the single biggest factor. We know that this was deliberate."
90% agree with Sumption. I suggest he reads David Irving's work on WWII who I would say is the most outstanding historian of that period of our history. Mr Irving might disagree with Sumption on the issue of our necessity for despotism in order to destroy Germany.
ReplyDeleteSumption is clearly intelligent enough to know better than most about the trap of continuing war propaganda and the victors writing the story. ...He should also remember that it is accepted in academic circles that Ukraine and all of Soviet Russia was 95% Jew run when over 100,000,000 one hundred million Russian Orthodox Christians were slaughtered.
Clearly even the sharpest among us have blind spots, nevertheless his ideas about the ludicrous lockdowns are spot on; he should have stuck to the point.
