The Myth That Men Only Want One Thing

By Paul Bonea: You’ve probably heard of the phrase “men only want one thing”. It’s easy to drop it as “sage advice” in a real life discussion that’s strayed into the more spicy areas of how men and women interact with each other.
The ‘one thing’ in this case is of course sex. The phrase is an example of how society at large enjoys perpetuating the notion, humorously or otherwise, that men are robots with simple programming and that all their efforts are directed towards their next sexual conquest.
Of course, the phrase is said as a joke most of the times. But “men only want one thing” and other phrases like it create todays cultural background that guides how men and women interact with one another.

An implicit meaning that women want “more than one thing”

Part of the subtlety of the phrase is that if men only want one thing, then by definition it must mean that “women want more than one thing”. If it didn’t, then the phrase might as well be gender neutral “people only want one thing”, which doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

Man Set On Fire In Hong Kong After Confronting Anti-Government Protesters
By Tyler Durden: In one of the most gruesome videos to emerge from Hong Kong's increasingly violent protests, an unidentified man was set on fire during an argument on the street in Hong Kong.
The older man, seen in the video wearing a green shirt, reportedly helped chase demonstrators from a train station as they worked to disrupt the Monday morning commute. As the crowd started to disperse, the man was filmed arguing with young people who appear to be supporters of the protesters.
According to the South China Morning Post, the video shows the man, who is bleeding, walking away from the group and shouting "You are not Chinese." A member of the group responds: "We are Hong Kongers" as the man walks away. Then, a shouted insult prompts him to return and confront the younger demonstrators.
As the man starts arguing once again with the crowd, a person dressed in black and wearing a face mask runs up from behind him and douses the man in a clear liquid. He then lights the man on fire with a lighter, instantly engulfing him in flames.

Men’s Sense Of Women’s Disloyalty Prompts Men’s Sexed Protests

By Author Douglas Galbi: Literature of men’s sexed protest — literature in which men protest gender injustices that they suffer — has been written throughout recorded history. This important literature has commonly been trivialized, disparaged, and marginalized.
But ask yourself: why would men protest so bitterly about women’s treatment of them? The truth about gender relations is both clear and nearly unspeakable. Women have held dominating power over men’s welfare, and men-oppressing structures of gender inequality have been prevalent. Women’s loyalty to men works to mitigate both women’s power over men and gender inequality. Hence women’s disloyalty and betrayal of men particularly prompts men’s sexed protests.
Some expressions of angry protest, although permitted in relatively liberal medieval Europe, today would be categorized as hate speech.
