RT: The battle over American gun violence has intensified with the National Rifle Association's vow to fight legislative steps to increase gun control. It challenges President Obama’s call for proposals on curbing the country's mass shooting problem.
­On Sunday, the National Rifle Association sparked a blaze of criticism when it announced its plans for “meaningful contributions” to US gun control. The hugely powerful gun lobby's proposal placed the blame on the media, the criminal world, popular culture and virtually any national factor other than arms manufacturers and distributors.
During NBC's Meet the Press, Wayne LaPierre, the vice president of the NRA, openly said that his association would fight the task force established by US President Barack Obama to examine ways to reduce gun violence in the country. LaPierre did not back down from his comments Friday, when the NRA first spoke following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings that killed 26.

WAY back in the autumn of 2008, the joke in financial circles was that the only difference between Ireland and Iceland was a letter and six months. Now, with the Icelandic banks preparing to issue foreign currency bonds once again, it turns out that the joke was on us.
Remember when the Icelandics did the unthinkable and, unlike Ireland, told bank creditors to take a hike? They also imposed capital controls and allowed the value of their currency to fall – the Icelandic krona has lost almost half of its value against the euro over the past five years.
The "experts" queued up to assure us that these latter-day Vikings would be severely punished for their impertinence. While no one forecast that a hole would open up in the North Atlantic and swallow Iceland whole, some of the predictions came pretty darned close.
Meanwhile, we in Ireland did what we were told and repaid over €70bn of bank bonds at par. By doing so, even at the cost of bankrupting the State, the "experts" assured us that we would retain the confidence of the markets. Now, four years later, it is clear that, not for the first time, the "experts" have got it wrong. Catastrophically and utterly wrong.

 After all, the only thing that has stabilized in Europe, however briefly, is its peripheral bond market, which is merely a function of Draghi's willingness to risk future monetary instability and runaway inflation in order to bring sovereign bond yields under control: yields which are only hit record highs because the local governments have proven time and again unable and unwilling to make hard structural reforms (and where austerity continues to be a widely misused synonym for government corruption and incompetence). And as long as yields represent not reality but the motives of a few unelected central-planners, nothing will truly change for the better in Europe.

Syria militants use chemical weapons against Syrian forces

Press TV: Militants fighting against the Syrian government have used chemical weapons against the army in Daraya near the capital, Damascus, military sources say.

According to a commander of the Syrian Presidential Guard, at least seven Syrian soldiers were killed on Saturday after they were attacked by a chemical weapon which produced a toxic yellow gas.

The soldiers were reportedly killed within an hour after inhaling the gas.

Foreign-backed militants have repeatedly threatened to use chemical weapons against the army and pro-government civilians in recent days.

They have also threatened to contaminate Syria's drinking water supply in a bid to kill all Alawite Shias and the supporters of President Bashar al-Assad.

Fascist NYPD seeks to identify potential ‘deranged’ gunmen by monitoring internet chatter

By Madison Ruppert: The New York Police Department (NYPD) is reportedly considering widespread internet surveillance in an attempt to identify and eliminate potential “deranged” gunmen before they commit their crimes, efforts which, one must assume, would be in addition to their so-called social media unit.
This idea came in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, which is quite interesting since similar ideas were put forth after the mass shooting in Norway.
Just as politicians shamelessly continue to exploit the Connecticut shooting to push their gun control agendas, it seems that those who would like to eliminate any and all privacy will seek to use the incident for their own ends as well.
The NYPD’s top intelligence officials met on Dec. 20 to discuss techniques including “cyber-searches of language that mass-casualty shooters have used in e-mails and Internet postings,” according to NYPD Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, as quoted in the New York Times.
Some might think this is a great idea but keep in mind, this is the same NYPD that nonsensically has a branch in Kfar Saba, Israel. Furthermore, in the not-so-distant past, an NYPD officer was thrown in a psychiatric ward by his superiors shortly after revealing systemic corruption in the NYPD and a couple was even arrested by the NYPD and detained for 23 hours simply for dancing.

The men force a rabbit to drink water contaminated with a lethal mixture to demonstrate what would happen if the militants poisoned the country's water supply.
