Giving Birth At 64? What Self-Centred Nonsense
By Kathy Gyngell: I could laugh if I didn’t want to cry. I see the liberal arts intelligentsia is out in force to congratulate the 64-year-old former boss of the Serpentine Gallery, Dame Julia Peyton-Jones, on the birth of her first baby – a daughter with the delightful name of Pia – of Latin origin associated with devout religion.
Missing the irony, Julia’s secular chums went overboard in their feminist excitement at this achievement – as they see it: ‘Julia will be a wonderful mother and role model for her daughter’, one was quoted as saying. . A former employee tweeted gushingly: ‘Baby Pia will learn so much from her and I am sure will follow in her footsteps as a trailblazing woman and icon”.
A role model? A baby doesn’t need a role model. It needs a mother’s breast. How out of touch with motherhood have these modern ‘bien pensants’ become? I fear for humanity’s future if they stay in charge.
We have to assume that the birth (in California) that was the catalyst of this celebration was not actually, at the age of 64, all Ms Peyton-Jones’s own work. The great investigative but fearsomely political correct Guardian neither tells us, nor speculates. It is far too reverential in such matters of feminist agenda setting, however privileged those doing the ‘having it all’ are. A spokesman, according to the Telegraph, she did not want to share further details about the new arrival. You bet she didn’t. Who might have been paid for what or which poor woman’s eggs had been ‘eggsploited’ is a far less glamorous topic,

MRI Scans Are Twice As Effective At Spotting Prostate Cancer As Biopsies
By Mike Buchanan, J4MB: More men die of prostate cancer in the UK, than women die of breast cancer. There are no national screening programmes for male-specific cancers, while there are two for female-specific cancers (breast and cervical cancer).
Some potentially excellent news in today’s Times. The use of MRI scans would not only reduce the number of unnecessary operations being carried out – incontinence and impotence are common consequences – it would greatly increase the success level of diagnosing aggressive cancers. The article quotes Hashim Ahmed of University College London, who led the first trial of MRI diagnosis:

The article quotes Hashim Ahmed of University College London, who led the first trial of MRI diagnosis:
He said that the vast majority of British hospitals were not yet using MRI to diagnose prostate cancer, as they did not have enough scanners or radiologists to interpret the results. “I hope that over the next one to two years they will create that capacity,” he said.

British Women Among Worst For Drinking While Pregnant
By Mike Buchanan, J4MB: We covered the issue of Foetal Alcohol Syndrome in our 2015 general election manifesto (pp.7,8). Our proposal:
The government should introduce legislation to prosecute women who have given birth to babies with FAS with inflicting GBH, and if found guilty, give them custodial sentences in line with CPS guidance, 9 – 16 years.I was interested to read a piece on FAS in today’s Times. The start:
British women are more likely to drink alcohol while pregnant than mothers-to-be in most other countries in the world, a study has found.
The UK has one of the highest rates of foetal alcohol syndrome, the leading known cause of non-genetic intellectual disability in the western world, [our emphasis] researchers say. The condition is caused by exposure to alcohol in the womb.

Where Is The Left-Wing When A Country Needs One?
By Paul Craig Roberts: I was about to write a detailed and favorable review of Greg Palast’s book, Billionaires & Ballot Bandits when a friend sent me a request to “share” Palast’s Facebook LIVE broadcast of Palast’s documentary exposing “exactly how Trump and his cronies attacked the voting rights of a million minority voters to steal the White House.”
Let’s see, Trump won the presidency by winning 84% of geographical America, losing only the black, hispanic, and white liberal vote; yet he stole the election by disenfranchising one million blacks. These blacks don’t live in flyover America. They live in the 500 counties that went for Hillary. 2,600 counties went for Trump.
Here is the map. It tells the story: http://brilliantmaps.com/2016-county-election-map/
I am disappointed with Palast, a good investigative reporter, but I understand his frustration.
Palast, despite his virtues, has the failing of so many of those on the left-of-center. They are required to hate “conservatives” and anyone identified as one, whether justified or not. The only thing in Palast’s book about voter suppression with which I disagree is his gratuitous, unexplained designation of Pat Buchanan as “a pinhead bigot.”
How exactly do we understand Palast’s misunderstanding of Pat Buchanan? Buchanan put his solid career with Republicans on the line when he ran against them and the jobs offshoring globalist corporations.
