President of the Palestinian Unity Government Mahmoud Abbas says Palestine will regain its independence and put an end to the decades-old JSIL (Israeli) occupation.
Orwellian UK Banned Press TV: "Palestine will ultimately regain its independence and impose itself as an independent State with al-Quds as its capital," Abbas said in a news conference at Algerian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.
"We are determined to recover the rights of our people, including the right to return and the release of all the Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails. We will not succumb to the policy of the Israeli hegemony and oppression," he added.
In the past few months, the Palestinian national unity government has been pushing for a UN resolution that determines the borders of a future Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 lines. Israel has expressed anger over the motion.
Speaking to Russian media on Tuesday, Saeb Erekat, a chief Palestinian negotiator, said the UNSC will vote on the resolution "very soon" at any time before the end of 2014, in nine days.
The text is also expected to lay out a timeframe for negotiations on a final peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians.
This is while the Israeli regime’s chief sponsor, the United States, has vowed to oppose the Palestinian draft resolution, specifically objecting to the deadline for an Israeli withdrawal.
Israel occupied the Palestinian territories of East al-Quds (Jerusalem), the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank during the Six-Day War of 1967. Tel Aviv withdrew from Gaza in 2005, but its forces have been carrying out regular deadly forays into the blockaded enclave ever since the pullout.
Palestinians are demanding that Israel withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territories. Tel Aviv, however, has refused to return to the 1967 borders and is unwilling to discuss the issue of al-Quds.
