A film about the mass media hysteria over anarchists

Perseus999: "Stay Inside" is a brilliant post apocalyptic film by Stathis Athanasiou about the mass media hysteria over anarchists and the propaganda construction of the anarchist's image as a terrorist or a mindless hooligan.
What is brilliant in this surreal post apocalyptic film (2006) is the director's contrivance to replace zombies with consumers, to clearly underline the role of the mass media in the social construction of false reality and public belief, where activists and advocates of social change jeopardize the social safety and welfare needed as an integral factor of consumerism, with the exception of those goods and services that aim to promote the notion of safety, as is the case in this film. As the director has said in a post on Athens Indymedia back in 2007 “the mass media's purpose is to construct a reality that has not yet come to pass, so that it may be created in the near future. As the nazi propaganda minster, Goebbels, has said 'a lie told once remains a lie, but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth'”.

"Καθίστε μέσα" Ένα καυστικό post apocalyptic φιλμ γυρισμένο στους δρόμους της Αθήνας για την κατασκευή του μύθου των Εξαρχείων από τα media, ξανά επίκαιρο ενόψει της προαναγγελθείσας καταστολής στα Εξάρχεια, σε έναν ατέρμονο κύκλο κρατικής και μιντιακής εμμονής που επαναλαμβάνεται ως "φάρσα". Ένας “εσωτερικός εχθρός” που ανάλογα με την εποχή και την πολιτική ατζέντα που επιβάλει η εκάστοτε κυβέρνηση, υλοποιείται από τον μηχανισμό προπαγάνδας των μέσων μαζικής ενημέρωσης με σκοπό να διαμορφώσει την “κοινή γνώμη”. Όταν το βασικό πρόβλημα, αυτό δηλαδή με το οποίο κοιμάται και ξυπνάει κάθε μία και κάθε ένας από τα 10 εκατομμύρια που ζουν στον ελλαδικό χώρο δεν είναι τα Εξάρχεια, οι αναρχικοί ή το πανεπιστημιακό άσυλο, τη θέση του “εσωτερικού εχθρού” στο γυαλί της τηλεόρασης και των υπολογιστών παίρνουν οι μετανάστες, η αφρικανική σκόνη, οι καταιγίδες, μέχρι και το κουνούπι του δυτικού νείλου. Ή και όλα μαζί τα παραπάνω.
