The US army has confirmed the date for the arraignment of Staff Sergeant Robert Bales, accused of killing 16 Afghan civilians in March 2012. The army said in a statement on Tuesday that Bales will be arraigned in court at Joint Base Lewis-McChord outside Seattle on January 17 on charges of murdering the 16 Afghan civilians. The 39-year-old could face the death penalty if convicted in the March 11, 2012 massacre, in the district of Panjwaii in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar. According to a fact-finding mission set up by the Afghan parliament, at least 20 US soldiers were involved in the massacre of the civilians, including nine children.
