The 12:15 discussion was with ladies from two feminist campaigning organisations. The first was Stephanie Davies-Arai from No More Page 3 http://nomorepage3.org who was replacing a feminist ‘Women’s Officer’ from the NUS, whose name I can’t be bothered to look up. I hadn’t been told of the replacement beforehand – I’ve had this happen before with media interviews, invariably at short notice – but to my surprise Stephanie was charm personified when we met in the hospitality suite before the discussion. This was in stark contrast to Ikamara Larasi of Imkaan http://imkaan.org.uk, whose hatchet-faced expression was that long favoured by radical feminists – I believe they regularly chew on thick slices of lemon, to maintain the expression throughout the day – both in the hospitality suite and during the studio discussion.
Late in the first discussion, Roz Hardie claimed that women such as Margaret Thatcher had the suffragettes to thank for women having the vote. I couldn’t let such a slander against Mrs T go without a response, so I suggested she read an article by Herbert Purdy http://herbertpurdy.com/?p=204 on how women REALLY got the vote.
The sections of the video:
0:00 – 3:20: Introduction by the host, Laura Bates whines on in her inimitable manner.
3:21 – 6:49: First discussion with Roz Hardie.
6:50 – 11:33: Second discussion with her.
11:34 - 24:39: Lunchtime discussion with Stephanie Davies-Arai and Ikamara Larasi.
