One of my closest friends of almost 40 years recently got back into a relationship with a women 30 years younger than him that has serious psychological issues. She cheats on him, drinks and does drugs in his apartment and yet he bends over backwards so that she won’t leave him. He thinks he is sacrificing because he loves her so and he gets all misty when watching the Bachelor. But I think it’s more about his own insecurities around being alone. We used to talk very frequently. But since she came back into his life, I usually get a very brief call where he hardly says anything of interest. He said he couldn’t really talk in front of her...When I brought it to his attention that she does drugs and sleeps around on him openly. He really didn’t have an answer for me. I have found that almost all my friends that are married or seriously dating are scared of offending their significant others...They are willing to compromise their dignity, friendships, finances and sanity in order to keep the peace. I have found this type of behavior more and more intolerable and have pretty much decided to make a clean sweep and try to find new friends that are not so far gone... We often make a joke about the scene in the Matrix where Neo gets shot by Smith who asks one of the other agents to check Neo to see if he has a pulse...Smith says, “Check Him”...and the agent replies, “He’s Gone”...This is how I feel about most of my friends. They’re gone and sadly, probably won’t be coming back. I also like the scene at The end of Vanilla Sky, where Tech. Support asks Tom Cruise if he wants to be plugged back into the Lucid Dream or have a real life despite the difficulties that he will now be facing. I think most of my friends would prefer to be plugged back in. I think in North America, Australia and Europe, men are supposed to marry, have kids and live quiet lives of get
intimater? I know you often discuss men complaining that their wives of many years, especially after giving birth are upset because they are being sexually deprived by their wives...is that necessarily a bad thing?
