Alone In North Korea + How Russians REALLY Live Under Sanctions In 2025

Matt and Julia: Alone in Pyongyang, North Korea in 2025. This is the only time you’re allowed to be free and walk the streets when traveling to Pyongyang, North Korea… completely unsupervised.

We travelled to North Korea with a group of foreigners to take part in the 2025 Pyongyang Marathon, the first international event in North Korea (DPRK) for over 5 years. This is one of the only moments where foreigners can experience a brief sense of freedom in one of the world’s most tightly controlled countries.

In this video, we show what it’s really like to run through Pyongyang — without a guide, without a set route, and for a few surreal hours, without restrictions. From interactions with locals to the electric atmosphere inside the Kim Il-Sung Stadium, this was one of the most unexpected and emotional experiences of our journey through the DPRK.

Join us as we run the streets of Pyongyang, North Korea as part of the Pyongyang Marathon and share rare first-hand moments with locals in Pyongyang, without a guide.

🎥 This is Part 3 of our 4-part North Korea series.
