By John Ward: I recently stuck my neck out by suggesting that when it comes to
“economic sanctions” being placed on Russia, the West – especially the
EU – are what that old paedophile Mao Tse Tung used to call “Paper
tigers”. Now a Slog reader points to further confirmation of Russia’s
relative safety in the face of Western threats, given that ‘exported
commodities represent 20% of Russian GDP. Additionally, commanding over
10% of the global gas and oil market, Russia is a huge marginal producer
of the most important commodities on a global scale (and with over 40%
of the produced palladium, one can see why its price in recent weeks has
exploded)’.
But it doesn’t end there: ‘ Russia supplies literally all of the
natural gas that Finland and the Baltics consume and 70% of what Ukraine
consumes, a key point of Russian leverage in the current dispute.
Dependence is not limited to smaller, immediately neighboring countries;
Germany relies on Russia for around one-third of its total gas
supplies. Although seasonal and other factors could lessen the impact of
disruptions to these flows, there is no doubt that such potential
disruptions would negatively impact European growth….unlike the great
powers of the developed world which have been unable to grow at a
BRIC-like pace, and thus were forced to borrow heavily from the future
for some very modest growth today, Russia did not have that problem. As a
result, Russian total external debt is tiny when viewed from the prism
of an insolvent G-7 country.’

The issue of women and cars started creeping into my head a few weeks ago when my buddy Dave decided he had enough of his old 1999 Honda Civic and it was time to trade in the car he purchased while still in College and he decided to purchase a year and a half year old S series Mercedes with cash.

By Janet Bloomfield (aka JudgyBitch): Isabel Chalmers has written a truly compelling, heart wrenching piece at Thought Catalogue about
how her slutty days are behind her and she’s ready to offer her vagina
to a Nice Guy now. That’s so sweet Isabel. Let’s see what you have to
offer:
Dear Nice Guy,
Note the lack of plural. Isabel is not
talking to Nice Guys as a group – she is addressing that one special
Nice Guy to which she is obviously entitled.
I don’t know you yet but I’m so ready to
date you. Seriously, I am. For a long time, I dated bad boys. Yes, I was
that girl you blame for always coming in last. I guess I dated bad boys
because, somehow, I liked their unavailability, sexy sideways glances,
and late-night calls. I fed off the chase and mystery they provided me. I
saw them as a challenge that I always happily accepted. Let me tell
you, I’ve dated so many jerks throughout the years. A lot of times, I
ended up being disappointed with how it ended with them, and wondered
why I always had such blind optimism about these guys I clearly knew
were jerks to begin with. But to be honest, I don’t regret any of it
now.
You dated men you knew were unavailable, and
the juxtaposition of “sexy” and “late night calls” strongly suggests you
were a booty call for a whole bunch of them. You fed off the fact that
they made you feel desirable – they chased you. Your word for these men
is “jerks.” A lot of times you ended up disappointed? A lot of times?
You’re kidding, right?

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says the Israeli regime and its American supporters spearhead an “anti-Iran campaign” in an attempt to portray the Islamic Republic as a global “threat.”
Orwellian UK BANNED Press TV: In an essay for the journal Foreign Affairs, Zarif said the administration of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani seeks to “defeat the international anti-Iranian campaign, spearheaded by Israel and its American benefactors, who seek to ‘securitize’ Iran -- that is, to delegitimize the Islamic Republic by portraying it as a threat to the global order.”
“The main vehicle for this campaign is the ‘crisis’ over Iran’s peaceful nuclear program -- a crisis that, in Iran’s view, is wholly manufactured and therefore reversible,” wrote the Iranian foreign minister.
The administration of President Rouhani engaged in nuclear talks with the P5+1 group – the US , Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany – in an effort to foil the smear campaign launched against the country, added Zarif.
The top Iranian diplomat further emphasized that the Islamic Republic “has no interest in nuclear weapons and is convinced that such weapons would not enhance its security.”

RT: Spending cuts in Greece have caused some 500 male suicides since their implementation, according to a new study. The research found a positive correlation between austerity and suicide rates after other possible links proved to be unrelated.
The 30-page study, titled 'The Impact of Fiscal Austerity on Suicide: On the Empirics of a Modern Greek Tragedy' and published in the Social Science and Medicine journal was authored by Nikolaos Antonakakis and Alan Collins from Portsmouth University.
“Suicide rates in Greece (and other European countries) have been on a remarkable upward trend following the global recession of 2008 and the European sovereign debt crisis of 2009,” states the study’s abstract.
Each 1 percent decrease in government spending resulted in a 0.43 percent rise in suicides among men, according to the study. Between 2009 and 2010, there were 551 deaths which occurred “solely because of fiscal austerity,” it stated.
Submitted by Tyler Durden: It appears, based on these extremely graphic
images, that the Chinese people have a different way of dealing with
corrupt officials. As Shanghaiist reports, a citizen posse involving around 1,000 people marched last Saturday in Cangnan county of Wenzhou city, Zhejiang
province, resulting in the hospitalization of five chengguan, China's notoriously abusive and under-regulated urban enforcement officials. The alleged cause for the posse was the five's brutally killing a civilian. According to reports, the
chengguan "hit the man with a hammer until he started to vomit blood,
because he was trying to take pictures of their violence towards a
woman, a street vendor." This man later died while being rushed to the hospital. Given the following images of civilian retribution; is it any wonder, the powers that be in China fear social unrest?
[Background: Chengguan is
a name given to the City Urban Administrative and Law Enforcement
Bureau, a municipality police that exists in every Chinese city.
Chengguan are notorious for their brutality and generally hated far and
wide for it. Their purpose is to enforce municipal bylaws, but they like to resort to violence and often use it against those with no means to fight back.]
