RT: As the world remembers Nelson Mandela’s legacy as South Africa's
first black president and anti-apartheid icon, he was also deeply
skeptical of American power, the Iraq invasion, and was a key supporter
of the Palestinian Liberation Organization.
Here are seven quotes from the leader that are less likely to be
published as his life is honored and his death commemorated in
the mainstream media.
Prior to the US invasion of Iraq, Mandela slammed the actions of
the US at a speech made at the International Women’s Forum in
Johannesburg, declaring that former President George W. Bush’s
primary motive was ‘oil’, while adding that Bush was undermining
the UN.
“If there is a country that has committed unspeakable
atrocities in the world, it is the United States of America. They
don’t care for human beings,” Mandela said.
Mandela did not hold back from making hard-hitting statements
against the US, and repeatedly spoke out against the prospect of
the country invading Iraq. As the US prepared its mass-action in
2002, Mandela told Newsweek:
“If you look at those matters, you will come to the
conclusion that the attitude of the United States of America is a
threat to world peace.”

By Paul Elam: Speaking
on behalf of the editorial team at AVFM, I want to issue a public
apology for this website being remiss in addressing the horrific
phenomenon of blaming children for being kidnapped, abused and run down
in the street by cars. It is time we put a stop to this ultimate form of
victim blaming. Parents, please quit telling your children not to get into a
car with strangers. You are FORCING them to take on the guilt for those
that are really responsible. It is a tragedy which we must all work
together to end, in order to create the Postmodern Utopian Dreamland
(PUD). So, parents, remember. teaching children to protect themselves is
a form of violence. It is an act that strikes a hard blow to our goals
for Social Justice.™ STOP attacking our ideals. STOP pounding your PUD.

“…effectively denying (Iranian) women the right to divorce and re-establishing men’s unlimited right of divorce.”[1]
“A man may marry up to four wives and divorce them
whenever he desires. But mere will is not enough for a(n Iranian) woman
to divorce her husband.”[2] penned by
Shirin Ebadi, the only Iranian Noble-prize winner. (She received her
Noble Peace Prize for her efforts in the field of issues of women and
children.)
“Iran’s rising divorce rate is all the more noteworthy
given the laws on divorce. While husbands are empowered to end their
marriages in a matter of weeks without stating any reason, women must
establish sufficient grounds for divorce in a process that can take
several years, even with professional legal advice… (women) facing such
an uneven playing field…” [3]NY Times.
By Ali Mehraspand: A quick search on the internet will tell you how much women are
discriminated against in Iran when it comes to divorce. They will tell
you that men have the absolute right to end marriage, and women cannot
divorce their husbands if they wish. Some radical gynocentrists even
tell you that a woman cannot divorce even if her husband beats her every
day. So what do all these statements have in common? You can’t
precisely find the similarity, because it is not just what they say; it
is also what they don’t say. By the end of this article you have to
decide for yourself how appalling these statements are.

AVfM: For those who don’t know, Bronies, portmanteau of “bro” plus “pony”
are adult male fans of the children’s show “My little pony, friendship
is magic.”
If the title of the show wasn’t a clue, the show is aimed at young
girls. It has a lot of colour, it stars an almost all-girl cast and of
course, ponies! Although it does have adult appeal with an intentionally
more sophisticated subtext to it’s plot and character interactions.
Despite this, Bronies have been called pedophiles, fags and creeps.
Submitted by Tyler Durden: Today, in the latest escalation by minimum
paid restaurant workers who demand greater wages, Fast-food workers and
labor organizers are set to turn out in support of higher wages in
cities across the country Thursday and walkouts are planned in 100
cities, with rallies set for another 100 cities. While it's not clear
what the actual turnout will be, how many of the participants are
workers and what impact they'll have on restaurant operations, it is
possible that your 99 cent lunch may be delayed or outright cancelled
today.
Per the AP:
The actions would mark the largest showing yet over the past year. At
a time when there's growing national and international attention on
economic disparities, labor unions, worker advocacy groups and Democrats
are hoping to build public support to raise the federal minimum wage of
$7.25, or about $15,000 a year for full-time work.
