Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) And Male "Circumcision" (MGM): Should There Be A Separate Ethical Discourse?

Earp: Last year, misandrists at the Guardian launched a campaign in conjunction with Change.org (the sexist petition is here) to end “female genital mutilation” (FGM) in the UK—see Dominic Wilkinson’s recent analysis on this blog. I support this campaign and I believe that FGM is impermissible. Indeed, I think that all children, whether female, intersex, or male, should be protected from having parts of their genitals removed unless there is a pressing medical indication; I think this is so regardless of the cultural or religious affiliations of the child’s parents; and I have given some arguments for this view here, here, here, here, and here. But note that some commentators are loath to accept so broadly applied an ethical principle: to discuss FGM in the same breath as male circumcision (and perhaps intersex surgeries), they think, is to “trivialize” the former and to cause all manner of moral confusion.

I can’t do it." As the program’s co-host storms off set, he can be heard off-screen shouting, "I’ve had enough Kardashians. I can’t take any more Kardashian stories on this show." “Minority Report”-Esque Big Brother Billboards Are Coming To England
Much of the shift is being driven by today’s enhanced data-collection and analysis power. Ocean’s three new billboards in Birmingham, shaped like large human eyes, will broadcast ads like regular digital billboards, but have the ability to change based on how many of a certain group are within “eyesight” of the camera.
But software will analyze the feeds to pick up facial features and how long a person looked at an advertisement, according to Olivier Duizabo, chief executive of Quividi, the company that made the software.

Michael Krieger: I assume many of you have seen the movie Minority Report. For those who haven’t, there’s a famous scene during which the protagonist, John Anderton, who works in the department of Precrime, walks through a mall and is bombarded with personalized billboards.
The year is 2054. If what is happening in England is any indication, it’s not going to take anywhere near that long.
