“Like a girl” And Female Dependency

By Ayami Tyndall: The phrase “like a girl” is often added to a verb, such as “run like a girl” or “hit like a girl,” to denote a feminine, ineffectual act, usually due to physical weakness. Recently, a video has been making the rounds (already past 40 million views on YouTube) that challenges these phrases as insulting and sexist.
In the video, a director instructs performers (male and female) to carry out actions “like a girl,” including running, throwing, and fighting. All emote in a stereotypically feminine manner, running with knees together, fighting with low-powered slaps, and throwing from the elbow.
The performers are then challenged on why girls do things this way, but there is no real answer. The “kicker” comes when a series of young (around ten years old) girls are given the same instructions and perform to their full ability, with no sissy wimpiness in sight.
The message? Girls’ self-esteem “plummets” during puberty, allegedly in part due to this kind of “like a girl” sexist language that undermines their sense of self-worth and ability.
However, gender roles are much more complex than that. Is saying “like a girl” sexist? By definition, yes, since the phrase distinguishes between boys and girls. Does it harm girls’ self-esteem? If they want to be an athlete or enter a similarly physical career, then it likely would. However, you could just as easily say “like a girl” is a form of hazing, a phrase thrown at a female athlete to push her to do better, to overcome the (scientifically factual) physical handicap she has compared with boys.
But that is still too simplistic.

Netanyahu Calls For Continuation Of Gaza Genocide

Apartheid Israeli Regime Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for a continuation of the genocide in the besieged Gaza Strip despite international calls for the termination of Israeli "massacre" in the blockaded enclave.

"We must be prepared for a lengthy campaign" in Gaza, said the Israeli prime minister on Monday.

Netanyahu further described Palestinian resistance fighters as a “cruel enemy”.

Rwanda, the current president of the Security Council, said late on Sunday that the 15-member world body agreed on a statement, which will be adopted in an emergency meeting later on Monday.
The statement called on Tel Aviv and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas "to accept and fully implement the humanitarian ceasefire into the Eid period and beyond," referring to the Eid al-Fitr holiday that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Since July 8, Israeli warplanes have been pounding numerous sites in the Gaza Strip, demolishing houses and burying families in the rubble. Israeli tanks also began a ground offensive against the impoverished Palestinian land on July 17.
Palestinian medics say more than 1,095 Palestinians have been killed so far in the Israeli attacks and nearly 6,500 others, also mostly little children have been maimed for life.

French Investment Bank: The “Redistributive Effects” Of US QE and ZIRP

By Wolf Richter: A new study found that the inflation-adjusted wealth of America’s median household – half of households are above and half are below – plunged 36% from 2003 to 2013. These years include the phenomenal stock and bond market rallies and price surges in other asset classes, propelled by the greatest credit bubble in history, ingeniously engineered by the Fed via QE and ZIRP.

But the median household wasn’t the only one to get shafted. The wealth of the lower 25th percentile, those folks who don’t have much to begin with, plunged 68%. And the bottom 5th percentile? Well, these hapless souls fell even deeper into the bottomless pit of owing more than they have in assets. Three times deeper. Even at the upper end, it was tough. The 75th percentile couldn’t beat inflation and lost on wealth, according to research by the Russell Sage Foundation. Only the top 95th percentile came out ahead and saw their wealth rise 14%. Which still isn’t much, over ten years.

What the report wisely left untouched is how the real winners of the Fed’s policies, the 99.9th percentile, made out.
Other studies have consistently pointed out similar shifts in wealth, though methods and numbers might have been different. By now, the results surprise no one. They have become a fact of life. But every one of these studies, whether it’s their intent or not, is an indictment of a magnificent wealth transfer scheme that isn’t an accident of history but the result of policies, pursued by nearly all major central banks, with the Fed at the forefront.
Bloggers have hammered on this for years, only to be shoved aside as conspiracy theorists. But now, Natixis, the asset management and investment banking division of Groupe BPCE, the second largest bank in France, and one of the largest banks in the world, came to the same conclusion in its economic research report on the “redistributive effects” of QE.
