By Luigi Logan (aka Fidelbogen): On May 20, 2015, Time magazine published a short article about a nasty kerfuffle that happened on Twitter. “Short article” is an understatement — it’s a fluff filler item at best. However, the content is weighty enough that I feel moved to compose something of greater heft. I will explain this, but first you should read the Time article. It will take you all of three minutes:

The nearly faceless author of this piece (Kia Kokalitcheva) has no readily discernible political standpoint, so the piece looks like straight-up reporting and little more. Yet there lurks an unpleasant core of greater interest, from which we may extract a topical object lesson.
To recapitulate the article: an unknown person opened a Twitter account and pretended to be the Australian feminist Caitlin Roper. Under this false personna, the hoaxer tweeted calls for transgendered people to commit suicide, evidently wishing to character-assassinate Roper by making it appear that Roper was personally saying this.
Not very sporting, I must say! Personally, I don’t hold with such methods.
Of particular interest is, that the hoaxer used “promoted tweets” – basically a system where you pay Twitter to signal-boost your tweets to a much larger public. For some reason, it took Twitter a while to discover the offensive nature of those promoted tweets, but when it did, it promptly suspended the account.

By Jack Outis: Imagine the perfect KKK member: proactively ignorant, intellectually shortsighted and blissfully full of supremacist belief. His blind faith can only be matched by his intense need to please, to become a barren supplicant to his chosen KKK tribe. Problem is: this specific perfect KKK member is black.
Congratulations, you just met Joss Whedon, the barely tolerated equivalent of a supplicant self-hating black male trying his desperate best to be accepted by a supremacist cult called feminism.
Feminists accepting Joss Whedon was, from the beginning, as plausible as the KKK accepting a black member; they may half-heartedly pretend they give the unworthy a shred of perfunctory, volatile acceptance but deep down? They only have utter contempt and distrust for the outsider.
Joss Whedon the once promising and very prominent male feminist wannabe has been excomulgated by the feminists he so fervently believed in.

The Cool Palestinian Tourism Brochure That's Hated By The Israel Lobby

By Orwellians: I came across a new tourism brochure that was allegedly printed by the Palestinian authorities in cooperation with a Japanese government tourism agency.

The brochure has already sparked outrage in the Israel lobby and so their agents have been sent out to set the record straight. (although they fail)
The brochure is considered – by the Israel lobby – as an all out attack on the Israeli state since it refers to Palestine following the pre-1948 borders. In the brochure Israel doesn’t even exist.
I find this brochure very entertaining considering the various perspectives it follows. Admitted, the brochure is largely a political expression but it does hold multiple truths nonetheless. Truths that the occupying state hates and constantly refers to as being antisemitic. A cheap shot.
Aside from anything else that can be argued about there’s something that stands out of all the rest, at least for me.
Japan.
Japan has co-sponsored this initiative and I have this feeling they have a good reason for doing so. It’s a gentle way of denouncing Israel’s involvement in 3/11 (Fukushima) and I have yet to find anyone who can credibly refute my statement here.

By Pater Tenebrarum: Shortly after the election victory that probably surprised no-one more than himself, David Cameron launched into explaining to the hoi-polloi what further transmogrification of the State is in store now that he’s got a free hand. He inter alia elated the audience with the following zinger:

“For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens: as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone. It’s often meant we have stood neutral between different values. And that’s helped foster a narrative of extremism and grievance. This government will conclusively turn the page on this failed approach.”

In other words, dear citizen, mafia uncle State will no longer leave you alone if you merely “obey the law”. Your “narratives of grievance” henceforth won’t be tolerated anymore!
