By Michael Snyder: Would
you like to know what America's young people are actually learning
while they are away at college? It isn't pretty. Yes, there are some
very highly technical fields where students are being taught some very
important skills, but for the most part U.S. college students are
learning very little that they will actually use out in the real world
when they graduate. Some of the college courses listed below are funny,
others are truly bizarre, others are just plain outrageous, but all of
them are a waste of money. If we are going to continue to have a system
where we insist that our young people invest several years of their
lives and tens of thousands of dollars getting a "college education",
they might as well be learning some useful skills in the process. This
is especially true considering how much student loan debt
many of our young people are piling up. Sadly, the truth is that right
now college education in the United States is a total joke. I know - I
spent eight years in the system. Most college courses are so easy that
they could be passed by the family dog, and many of these courses
"study" some of the most absurd things imaginable.
Listed below are 20 completely ridiculous college courses being
offered at U.S. universities. The description following each course
title either comes directly from the official course description or from
a news story about the course...

COMEX Pt I: Unveiling the gold market’s working parts + COMEX Pt II revealed: Investigating the paper gold market
By Jan Skoyles: The recent gold price
falls followed by record physical gold buying, concentrated in China
and India, have shone a light on the paper and physical gold markets. A
range of opinions exist on the workings of these markets, but where is
the gold price really set?
Mine and Will Bancroft’s latest unique look at the paper and physical gold markets throws up some essential reading when it comes to understanding gold price discovery and investing in gold bullion. Key takeaways from this include:
Mine and Will Bancroft’s latest unique look at the paper and physical gold markets throws up some essential reading when it comes to understanding gold price discovery and investing in gold bullion. Key takeaways from this include:

- Only 5% of COMEX open interest is backed by bullion in depositories
- The four most popular gold-backed ETFs are worth over $59 billion
- The gold ETF, GLD, accounts for nearly 60% of the ETF market
- The ten largest gold refineries have annual capacity of 5,000 tonnes

Greece Slides Into The "Fourth World" - The Full Photo Album
Submitted by Tyler Durden: With Greek government bonds at multi-year
highs (up 300% in the last year), the Athens Stock Index still up 100%
in the last year, and leaders all over the Euro-zone proclaiming the
crisis is over (and that Greece has "made big strides"); we thought it
perhaps useful to look at the reality behind the propagandized talk and
manipulation. The sad truth is Greece is rapidly dissolving into
a 'fourth world' nation with unemployment rates (broad and youth) at
unprecedented levels, poverty widespread, and homelessness
rife. Perhaps, as Germany today stated that there will be no more debt
reduction for Greece, it is 'math' in the first image that the TROIKA
and the Greek representatives should pay special attention to...
CRASH2: Forming a pyramid on the cliff-edge
The Slog: European bond rates are rising rapidly.
Yesterday the rise spiked after Mario Draghi said the ECB was
maintaining the key lending rate, and the overnight deposit rate. The
ECB also cut its 2013 gross domestic product growth forecast to negative
-0.6% from -0.5% as predicted in March, but boosted the 2014 outlook to
1.1% from 1%. Italian 10-year bond yields zoomed 23 basis points to
4.369%, Spanish 10-year bond yields rose by the same to 4.675%, and
Portuguese 10-year yields climbed 24 basis points to 6.019%. Greek
10-year yields climbed 15 basis points to 9.271%.
What these reactions tell us is two things. First – as with the
jittery stock movements and Bernanker QE exit hints – any sign at all
that the Wily Coyote flying carpet is about to be pulled evoke dramatic
pessimism. That’s because the markets know that this is just a
game: they’ve known this for coming up to two years now. Any sign at all
that the game-players are taking their ball home is greeted with panic.
Second, Portugal above 6% and Greece back over 9% means that this is no
longer a loss of faith in one Clubmed sovereign: the markets are losing
faith in the eurozone. A wobble from France will be enough to destroy
what’s left of the European Bond risk appetite.
Meet PRISM / US-984XN - The US Government's Internet Espionage Super Operation
Submitted by Tyler Durden: The disclosures involving this (and the prior)
administration's Big Brother surveillance state, which would make Nixon
blush with envy are now coming fast and furious (one wonders - why now: even that bastion of liberalism the NY Times, has turned against Obama).
Although while the Guardian's overnight news that Verizon (and most
certainly AT&T as well among others) was cooperating with the NSA on
spying on US citizens, so far at least the internet seemed, if only to
the great unwashed masses, immune. That is no longer the case following
news from the WaPo exposing PRISM, a highly classified program, which
has not been disclosed publicly before. "Its establishment in 2007 and
six years of exponential growth took place beneath the surface of a
roiling debate over the boundaries of surveillance and privacy." What
PRISM does is to allow the NSA and the FBI to tap directly "into
the central servers of nine leading U.S. Internet companies, extracting
audio, video, photographs, e-mails, documents and connection logs that
enable analysts to track a person’s movements and contacts over time."
