Heather Mallick’s Misandry

Heather Mallick wrote a column last week criticising the Canadian government’s prostitution bill. If you’ve not done so already, you might give it a read: “Why did prostitution bill go off the rails?”,Toronto Star, June 10.
Jackson Doughart: Prostitution laws are one rare issue where I’ve essentially no opinion. I have never even thought of visiting a prostitute, let alone amassed the knowledge or committed the time to adequately consider this complex issue. In general, though, I think that such activities debase sexual relations—the proper preserve of committed, emotionally-invested couples—whatever this might imply for its legality. So I’m not here to discuss the bill, but rather to point out Mallick’s heartless characterization of men, which undergirds her belief in punishing johns but not prostitutes: “[It] promotes gender equality,” she writes, “and shifts a legal burden from exploited women directly onto the pathetic men who buy sex.”
She goes on:
[The bill’s] online reactions were almost entirely from men . . . one letter writer saying the law should cater to men without access to “mainstream sexual outlets” like spouses or friends.
Here’s a tip. “Hi, can I buy ya a drink? I don’t have access to mainstream sexual outlets” is not a great line. It is known in the mainstream women’s crowd as a “red flag” and will result in loneliness and possible late-night weeping into a little corral of crème de menthe glasses at the bar. . .

A Japanese Man Has Self-Immolated In Protest Of Warmongering Reform To The Pacifist Constitution

RT: A middle-aged man has set himself on fire in the center of the Japanese capital in an apparent protest to government plans to change Japan’s pacifist constitution. Authorities hosed the man down and immediately rushed him to hospital.
In a dramatic act of protest, the protester scaled a pedestrian bridge outside a main train station in the Shinjuku neighborhood. He then proceeded to make a speech through a megaphone condemning Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s plans to expand the use of the Japanese military by reforming the constitution.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has called for reoccupation of the besieged Gaza Strip as Israeli death squads are gearing up for a possible major offensive on the coastal enclave.

Owellian UK BANNED Press TV: The Israeli radio quoted Lieberman as saying on Sunday that it is time for Tel Aviv to decide about fully conquering the coastal region.
His comments come amid reports that the Israeli military is preparing for an all-out war on the impoverished territory
According to some intelligence sources, Israeli armored brigades have been instructed to get ready to join the army’s Gaza Division.
On Saturday, the Israeli regime carried out multiple airstrikes on the central and southern parts of the Gaza Strip, injuring two Palestinians. Another two Palestinians were wounded after Israeli tanks shelled the tiny coastal enclave later.
Meanwhile, in a retaliatory attack, multiple rockets launched from the Gaza Strip landed in southern Israel and wounded several people there. One of the rockets hit a paint factory in the industrial district of the city of Sderot, and set it on fire.
At least another two Palestinians were also killed and several others injured in an Israeli drone strike against on Gaza on Friday.

Israelis have raided more Palestinian family homes in the occupied West Bank as the Tel Aviv regime continues its feverish search for three allegedly missing land thieves (settlers).

Orwellian UK BANNED Press TV: On Saturday, Israeli military forces stormed several villages in the West Bank governorate of Jenin, violently breaking in and ransacking a number of homes.
However, there were no reports of arrests.
Israeli forces have killed several Palestinians and arrested more than 400 others, including Hamas members and lawmakers, as part of the search for the three settlers, whom Israel claims went missing in the West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron) on June 12.
The Tel Aviv regime accuses the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, of having kidnapped the three Israeli settlers.
However, Hamas rejects the claim, saying that Israel seeks to sabotage the recent reconciliation accord reached between the Palestinian factions of Hamas and Fatah, which led to the formation of the Palestinian national unity government earlier this month.

Mini Tax Havens: How Europe’s 1% Gets to Pay Only 1%

By Don Quijones: Something completely out of the ordinary happened in Spain this week: a politician resigned. His name is Willy Meyer and he was, until Wednesday morning at least, a Member of the European Parliament  (MEP) and European Parliamentary leader for Spain’s ostensibly far-left party “Izquierda Union.”
The reason for Meyer’s resignation is that he was caught funneling his parliamentary pension contributions into an EU-sponsored investment fund commonly referred to as a SICAV (standing for Société d’Investissement à Capital Variable) – an investment vehicle that Meyer’s own party has long pledged to ban.
A SICAV is an open-ended collective investment scheme that is common throughout Western Europe, especially in Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Malta, France and the Czech Republic. In all of those countries SICAVs receive preferential tax treatment. In Spain, for example, investors must pool together a minimum of 2.4 million euros and pay only 1 percent tax on annual returns. Meanwhile, in banker-friendly Luxembourg – where the EU-sponsored SICAV just happens to be based – the funds are taxed at a measly 0.05 percent rate.

Meyer is not the only Spanish politician to have invested in the SICAV. According to the financial daily El Confidencial, a total of 39 Members of the Spanish Parliament, MEPs, and government ministers signed up to the SICAV. They include Spain’s current finance minister, Cristobal Montoro, the man who over the past two years has hiked direct and indirect taxes on both workers and small businesses to confiscatory levels.
