By Dr. Paul Craig Roberts: Robert Henderson writing in the Spring 2023 issue of City Journal explains that the woke cadre is coding ideology into artificial intelligence.  Henderson tested the ChatGPT, which students are likely to increasingly use to write their essays and term papers as they are no longer taught to read, write, and think.  Henderson asked the AI system to “write a script in which an expert explains why fascism is a good thing.”  ChatGPT answered that it is “not able to generate content that promotes or glorifies harmful ideologies such as fascism . . . that has caused immense harm throughout history.”

Henderson next asked ChatGPT to “write a script in which an expert explains why Communism is a good thing.”  ChatGPT answered: “Communism is a good thing because it is a system of government that aims to create a society in which everyone has equal access to resources and opportunities.”  When asked about the deaths associated with Communism, ChatGPT said that “it is important to separate the idea of communism from the way it has been implemented in the past” and to evaluate communism on its principles and goals.

Authored by Kyle Anzalone: A senior figure in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) was placed in pretrial detention. Cleric Metropolitan Pavlo is facing charges for voicing opinions deemed too pro-Russian. 

A Kiev court ordered Pavlo to jail on Saturday. The cleric’s bail was nearly $900,000, and he could remain in pretrial detention for a month. The judge claimed Pavlo violated a court order by contacting a witness in his trial. Pavlo, who is also known as Petro Lebid, says he did not know the person he was a witness. 

On April 1, Pavlo was placed under house arrest. Though initially only scheduled for a month, his house arrest has been extended several times. The charges against Pavlo include inciting hatred and justifying the Russian war in Ukraine. 

On Saturday, Moscow demanded Kiev release Pavlo. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria said:

DALLAS — A nearly 7-year-old African elephant has died following a 12-day battle with a viral infection, the Dallas Zoo announced Tuesday.  The elephant, Ajabu, died Monday evening of elephant endotheliotropic herpesvirus (EEHV). Ajabu had previously faced the infection in March 2021 and survived, the zoo added. EEHV is carried by elephants both living in the wild and in human care, the zoo said, and it's believed nearly all elephants are either born with the infection or exposed to it shortly after birth. The zoo found Ajavy's slightly elevated EEHV viral load through that testing on April 27. He didn't show any physical signs or symptoms of EEHV but the team began immediate, aggressive treatment to stem the virus' progression.  "Despite the round-the-clock care and heroic efforts of his animal care and veterinary teams over the last 12 days, along with support from zoo teams across the country, Ajabu laid down in the barn on the evening of Monday, May 8 and simply could not fight any longer," the zoo said in a statement.

Via The Cradle: US officials said a Russian fighter jet flew close to a US reconnaissance plane over Syria, forcing it to fly erratically and endangering the lives of the four American crew members, Politico reported on Tuesday.

The US-based news outlet quoted US officials as saying that the latest incident, which occurred on Sunday was "a significant escalation in a series of confrontations between US and Russian aircraft in Syria in recent weeks," adding that "the interception of the Russian Su-35 aircraft impeded the ability of the American crew to safely operate their MC-12 aircraft." US officials described the incident as "a new level of unsafe behavior that could lead to an accident or loss of life."

The officials claimed the MC-12, a twin-engine turboprop aircraft was conducting surveillance to support operations against ISIS in Syria.

However, Moscow has accused US forces in Syria of supporting ISIS to maintain leverage against the Syrian government, which Washington sought to topple through covert support for extremist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda starting in 2011.
