By Belinda Brown: The International Conference on Men’s Issues is a vital annual event which gives much needed publicity to the devastating issues affecting men and boys today. It was founded by two men – Paul Elam, who set up A Voice for Men, and Mike Buchanan, who founded the political party Justice for Men and Boys. The first such event I attended was in 2016. It impressed me with the range of views as well the people it brought together by the general feeling of dismay about the devastation feminism has wreaked on society, and the particularly dire consequences for men and boys. The anti-feminist and men’s rights movements had come together to challenge the ever more extreme thinking that has come to dominate public and social policy. I am honoured to have been invited to speak at this year’s meeting in July. Some of you will have read my critiques of feminism on this site. This conference gives me a chance to present my most recent thinking about an alternative way of understanding men and masculinity, based on what I believe to be their essential role in the family, something I call responsive masculinity. I am looking forward to seeing how the men there will respond to it!
By Gilad Atzmon: In their response to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC) and the Board of Deputies of British Jews (BOD) claim to ‘propose an agenda of actions for discussion’ between the Labour party and those who claim to ‘represent’ British Jews. In practice the two Zionist institutions have managed to produce one of the most disgusting documents in modern Jewish history. A text that is little more than an ode to the self-defamation of its own authors and to the community they claim to ‘represent’: it is rude, authoritarian, and disrespectful to a democratically elected leader of Europe’s biggest party. Read the BOD/JLC's public address to Corbyn here When you read some of the extracts below, remember that despite BOD and the JLC claims to 'represent' British Jewry, these two organisations managed to pull just 1500 members of their community into their ‘Enough is Enough’ anti-Corbyn demonstration earlier this week. We are talking about 0.5% of British Jewry. The BOD/JLC’s authoritarian document outlines a set of humiliating conditions for Corbyn to meet. The text proves how detached these Jewish institutions are from British values, specifically, and the Western ethos, in general. In fact their vision of the political arena is Orwellian in nature and tyrannical in practice.
By Marty Nemko:On average, women are rated as slightly better managers than men. Also, women better understand the female consumer’s mindset. That’s important because women make most purchases. So why are only 11% of Fortune-500 senior executives women? The standard answer is “glass ceiling,” a term that evokes the image of a cabal of top male executives scheming to preserve an old boy’s club. While vestiges of old-boy hiring may remain, most top executives at Fortune 500 companies are too worried about the bottom line to let any clubby cravings affect who they hire as senior executives. The primary reason for the 11% figure is that men, on average, are willing to devote more time to their career. And time it takes. A study conducted by The Business Roundtable, an association of CEOs, found that the average CEO works 58 hours per week. Fortune 500 CEOs likely work even more. Unlike in typical media portrayals, few male senior executives spend much time hang-gliding. In the real world, here’s how it more often plays out, as reported to me by my many clients who are male senior executives. Their exercise is more likely to be on a treadmill while doing professional reading. If he’s married, when wife urges him to do more of the domestic chores and parenting, he is likely to say something like, “I want to rise to the top and you want me to, too. I like my work and you like our lifestyle. That requires lots of evenings and weekends. I spend as much time with the family as I can.” Most women make different choices.
By Matthew Smith: My brother Dan was my best pal and my idol. He was taken by something silent, something none of his friends or family saw coming. 13 years ago, we lost Dan to suicide. After he died, I set out a goal of preventing one brother, one father, one family, one friend having to go through what my family, his friends and I went through. Dan was just one of the 84 men who take their own lives every single week in the UK. The numbers still shock me. Suicide claims the lives of more than 6,000 British men and women every year and is the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK.
