At least some of them have already arrived in Cyprus, CNN has reported. Dozens of American troops are there, with Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder having confirmed that the US has sent "a small number of US military personnel forward" to the region "out of an abundance of caution." Close US ally the United Kingdom has ordered a surge of hundreds to Cyprus alongside the US troops.
This is to prepare for a range of contingencies which could include warships going to the Lebanese coast to conduct an emergency evacuations of remaining American citizens in Lebanon.
"The support that you’re seeing when it comes to US forces in the region is for our own force protection and should we need to come to the defense of Israel, like we saw from that large-scale attack from Iran," Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said in a follow-up briefing.
"We still believe, right now, the conflict has been contained to Gaza. There’s no question that there are higher tensions in the region, there’s no question that there’s been an increase in border clashes on that northern border," Singh continued.

Putin, caught off guard, returned from the Beijing Olympics, and the Russian army quickly defeated the US trained Georgian forces. Putin is often accused of intending to rebuild the Soviet Empire, but he had in his hands Georgia, historically a part of the Soviet Union and previously of Russia. Instead of reincorporating Georgia back into Russia, he turned them loose to be again subjected to Washington’s plots against Russia.

Putin by denying Iran the Russian S-400 air defense system, has permitted Israel to continue to assassinate from the air Hezbollah’s leaders in Iran. Putin’s failure to protect an ally has strengthened the US/Israeli position in the Middle East and weakened Russia’s.
Syria also continues to suffer Israeli/US air attacks, which destroy Iranian leaders, because Putin refuses to allow Syria to have Russian air defense systems. In effect, Putin is protecting Israeli and US attacks on Syrian territory instead of protecting Russia’s Syrian ally.
Putin also sat on his butt about Ukraine. He did nothing to stop Washington’s overthrow of the Ukrainian government and installation of a neo-Nazi regime. He permitted a war to continue, now in its third year, with a third world country Russia should have defeated in three weeks, until the West became so involved that now Russia suffers the humiliation of missile and drone attacks deep into Russia. It was some years ago that Putin declared that never again would Russia be at war on its own territory. Well, Russia is now at war on its own territory, so once again we can dismiss whatever Putin says, which Washington and NATO do. Just the other day NATO General Secretary Stoltenberg said: “There have been many red lines declared by Putin before, and he has not escalated.” Russia’s war leader has lost his credibility in the West.
