Their peers play the role of high school students, and I observe and give feedback following these practice lessons. Whether coincidence or a reflection of the times, this fall a good number of mock lessons covered the rise of totalitarianism. In one excellent lesson, a teacher candidate had his students examine the contexts that gave rise to totalitarianism. He accompanied this lesson with an excerpt from a world history textbook listing characteristics of totalitarianism.
This lesson hit on the true purpose for including totalitarianism in high school curricula. That purpose is not to honor the likes of Hitler, Stalin, or Mussolini. Nor is that purpose to provide the methods of totalitarianism as an instructional manual to follow. Rather, the purpose of teaching on totalitarianism is to deliver a warning:

As far as we can see, nobody’s dying from Omicron, intubations are rare at best, and positive tests, even if they do end up in hospital, are mostly released as fast as they came in.
It’s simply over.
It’ll take another few weeks for this to become impossible to ignore, but it’s already there. A number of voices have called for treating it like the flu; Spain appears to have made that its official policy.
It’s over. And media, politicians and “experts” will need to jockey for position.
What Djokovic’s Battle to Compete in Australian Open Means for Health Freedom Movement
If the Serbian tennis star is allowed to stay in the country and compete in the Australian Open, Australia’s prime minister will be acknowledging that his country’s public health policies from the start have been nonsensical in their lack of nuance.
By Madhava Setty, M.D.: Professional tennis player and World No. 1 Novak Djokovic today was released from detention after winning his court battle to remain in Australia despite being unvaccinated for COVID-19.
However, in court today, government lawyers warned that Australia’s immigration minister could still cancel Djokovic’s visa, which would lead to an automatic three-year ban on his entering the country, The New York Times reported.
Djokovic’s release today is the latest twist in the ongoing standoff between the tennis star and Australian authorities over his eligibility to enter their country.

"We write to request a transcribed interview of Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director, U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Excerpts of emails we are making public today (see enclosed Appendix I) reveal that Dr. Fauci was warned of two things: (1) the potential that COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan Institute Virology (WIV) and (2) the possibility that the virus was intentionally genetically manipulated. It is imperative we investigate if this information was conveyed to the rest of the government and whether this information would have changed the U.S. response to the pandemic," reads the letter from Reps. James Comer and Jim Jordan to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra.
I missed this study. So did the mainstream media for some reason. But this study is yet another independent analysis of government data that is difficult to refute: we have been misled by the CDC, FDA and NIH.
As a health crisis, COVID is over. The hysteria, however, will be more stubborn.

Yes, even with Omicron, as with the flu, some people will get seriously ill, and a few will die. Government Finger Men in Australia pepper-sprayed supporters of tennis champion Novak Djokovic on Monday evening in Melbourne after the crowd began blocking car traffic and standing on a vehicle they thought carried Djokovic. The police attack took place outside Djokovic's lawyer's office.
Djokovic tried to enter the country last week to start practicing early for the tournament, but border force agents detained him and forced him into a concentration camp, something that was not taken well by his fans.

By Tyler Durden: The diplomatic standoff between an increasingly authoritarian Australian government and World's No. 1 Tennis champion Novak Djokovic has just taken an absurd new turn.
After Aussie immigration authorities left Djokovic to rot in immigration detention - confining him to a very modest room at the Park Hotel - for the better part of a week following his arrival in the country (despite Djovokic having all the proper paperwork to enter the country), an Australian judge on Monday decided to reject the government's decision to abruptly cancel the tennis player's visa (after he had already arrived in the country) and ordered that the tennis star be immediately released.
As a result of the decision, which was handed down at 1716 local time (around 0115ET), the Australian Ministry of Home Affairs - which has played a role akin to the antagonist in this saga - must pay Djokovic's costs from his time in detention. And all of his belongings - including, especially, his passport - must be returned to him "as soon as reasonably practicable."
