1000s Of Russians Rally To Slam ‘Fascist Coup’ In Ukraine

Press TV: Thousands of people have rallied in the Russian capital, Moscow, to express their resentment at what they called a fascist coupmore than a year ago in neighboring Ukraine, where former president, Viktor Yanukovych, was driven out of power.
On Saturday, around 35,000 demonstrators staged a rally under the slogan “We won’t forget, we won’t forgive!” and converged near Moscow’s Red Square to protest against the ongoing developments in Ukraine, where the government is engaged in crushing a pro-Russia movement in the east.

Many of the participants, including ultranationalist bikers, pensioners, war veterans, members of student organizations and other pro-government groups, waved Russian flags, while some carried banners reading, “Die, America!”

Yanukovych (pictured below) served as the fourth president of Ukraine from February 2010 until the Ukrainian parliament voted on February 22, 2014 to remove him from his post, on the grounds that he was allegedly unable to fulfill his duties.

Two days later, the legislature issued a warrant for Yanukovych’s arrest, accusing him of “mass killing of civilians” during protests that led to his overthrow.
179 Ukraine troops killed in Debaltseve
Meanwhile, a Ukrainian official says at least 179 government troops lost their lives in clashes with pro-Russia forces in the key eastern town of Debaltseve over the past month.
Yuri Biryukov, an adviser to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, said in a Facebook post late Friday that an estimated 179 Ukrainian soldiers were killed in Debaltseve between January 18 and February 18.
The official also confirmed that 110 soldiers were captured by the pro-Russia forces in the battle, adding that another 81 were missing as well.

Earlier this week, Ukrainian forces withdrew from Debaltseve following fierce clashes with the pro-Russia forces.
The pro-Russia forces and the Ukrainian troops had been battling for Debaltseve for weeks. The town connects Donetsk and Luhansk, the strongholds of the pro-Russians in eastern Ukraine.
Nearly 5,700 people have been killed and close to a million have been displaced since the armed conflict began in eastern Ukraine in April 2014.
