Britain’s Disgrace
By Abdel Bari Atwan: Nothing could make a bigger mockery of Britain’s and the West’s claims to be champions of justice and human rights than Prime Minister Theresa May’s insistence on officially celebrating the centenary of the Balfour Declaration, and inviting her Israeli counterpart Binyamin Netanyahu to join the festivities.
Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, a longstanding supporter of international justice and opponent of racism and war, did the honourable thing by refusing to take part in the commemoration. The Balfour Declaration needs to be renounced and condemned rather than celebrated, for it laid the foundations for one of the grossest injustices in modern history. The document and its authors bear responsibility for the dispossession and uprooting of an entire people, and for the succession of wars and massacres that followed in the region whose victims number in the tens of millions, and whose blood is still continuing to be shed today.
Yes, Britain is culpable for this historic injustice. And its current government is doubly culpable for shamelessly embracing this injustice and insisting that the government which issued this duplicitous declaration was right, while lacking the moral courage to express the slightest regret or utter a word of apology to its Arab victims and especially the Palestinian people.

By Gilad Atzmon: Towards the end of my most recent book, Being in Time - a Post Political Manifesto, I elaborate on Jewish controlled opposition strategies. I contend that when Jews detect that that something associated with them has become problematic they quickly form satellite dissent movements: they are first to oppose themselves. When Capitalism was identified as a Jewish problem, Marx was first to offer a coherent alternative. Once Palestine emerged as an acknowledged Jewish problem, a Jewish solidarity industry (JVP, IJAN, Mondoweiss, IJV) formed to dominate the opposition discourse on Israel. The intellectual debate on Zio-con immoral interventionist wars has been reduced into an internal Jewish debate between Sam Harris and Noam Chomsky. I expect soon we’ll see Jews leading the fight against sexual predatory behaviour in Hollywood and beyond. None of this is necessarily conspiratorial. It is normal for people to be embarrassed by members of their tribe who are associated with bad and criminal behaviour.

In the past, a sex scandal demanded that a married minister had consorted with a call-girl, had an illegitimate child or, at the very least, had a penchant for wearing a Chelsea football club strip during romantic moments (as conjured up by Max Clifford, that is) to steal the headlines and lead to a ministerial resignation or sacking. Lying mattered. But so, too, did remorse and reparation. Yet a distinction was still drawn between private and public life.
Cecil Parkinson’s extra-marital affair with his secretary, which resulted in a child, was not condoned. But it did not, in Mrs Thatcher’s view, bar him from office.

"Explosive" Leaked Secret Israeli Cable Confirms Israeli-Saudi Coordination To Provoke War

The explosive classified Israeli cable reveals the following:
- On Sunday, just after Lebanese PM Hariri's shocking resignation, Israel sent a cable to all of its embassies with the request that its diplomats do everything possible to ramp up diplomatic pressure against Hezbollah and Iran.
- The cable urged support for Saudi Arabia's war against Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.

First, we had Mark Garnier MP asking his secretary to purchase a sex toy and calling her ‘sugar t*ts'. Then we heard that one minister had placed his hand on the knee of a female journalist ‘repeatedly’ and allegedly lunged for a kiss at another 29-year-old after a slightly boozy lunch. These claimed grave wrongdoings by Sir Michael Fallon occurred about 15 and 14 years ago respectively. The reporter at whom Sir Michael allegedly lunged, Jane Merrick, herself says ‘as a political journalist, I went out for lunch with MPs as often as three times a week. It was part of the job. But, over the hundreds of these encounters over my 14 years in the lobby, this was the only time an MP crossed the line – and that is why I remember it so vividly.’ So that’s 14 years in the lobby, and she was mistreated in this way once.
Then there was an alleged glancing touch of Kate Maltby’s knee by Damian Green. The Sunday Times revealed that Green also might have had some legal porn on a computer. We know this because a discredited former police officer said he found out about the porn during a dodgy raid staged on Green’s parliamentary office nine years ago, and now the information has been leaked to the paper. This porn is legal. (I’m not saying it is moral.) These are allegations that are strenuously denied by Mr Green.

Brigadier General John Baker protested the government’s surveillance of Guantanamo Bay defense lawyers. And that got him sentenced to 21 days in confinement.
By Spencer Ackerman: The Guantanamo Bay military tribunals on Wednesday won their first conviction without a plea deal since 2008. Only it wasn’t a terrorist who was convicted – it was a one-star Marine general sticking up for the rights of the accused to have a fair trial.
In defending the principle that attorneys ought to be able to defend their clients free from government surveillance, Brigadier General John Baker was ruled in contempt of court and sentenced to 21 days in confinement. He also must pay a $1000 fine.
Baker is a senior officer within in the highly controversial military commissions process: the Chief of Defense Counsel. Maj. Ben Sakrisson, the Pentagon spokesman for detentions, confirmed that Baker is being confined in his quarters – at Guantanamo Bay.
“The military commissions are willing to put people in jail for defending the rule of law,” Jay Connell, who represents another Guantanamo detainee facing a military commission, told The Daily Beast. “If they’re willing to put a Marine general in jail for standing up for a client’s rights, they’re willing to do just anything.”
