State Of Palestine Can Accede To Geneva Conventions: Bern

The Swiss government says it has accepted Palestinians’ application to join the Geneva Conventions governing the rules of war and military occupations.
Orwellian UK BANNED Press TV: Switzerland, as the depositary of the Geneva Conventions, on Friday said "the state of Palestine" acceded to the conventions effective April 2.
The achievement for the Palestinians comes 25 years after the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) first applied to join the Geneva Conventions in 1989.
Tel Aviv insists that the Geneva Conventions, which forbid colonization of occupied land, should not apply to the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
The Swiss government’s announcement came one day after UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon accepted a request by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to join 13 other UN conventions.
On April 1, acting Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas signed letters of accession to 15 international conventions.
The measure was taken in response to Israel’s refusal to carry out a planned prisoner release after the end of a March deadline.
Angered by the move, Tel Aviv has imposed fresh economic sanctions against the Palestinian Authority.

An aide to Abbas earlier in the week made it clear that the PA's letters of accession to the UN conventions will not be withdrawn, stressing that Palestinians are ready to widen their bid.
In November 2012, the UN General Assembly voted to upgrade Palestine’s status at the world body from "non-member observer entity" to "non-member observer state" despite strong opposition from Israel and the United States.
