By Dean Walsh: Did the United States government plan a ‘false flag’ chemical weapons attack in Syria, as a pretext for going to war?Editor’s note: It’s worth pointing out that the rebels claim to have chemical weapons capability and have posted videos online allegedly showing these weapons in action.
One group of hackers claims that this is exactly what happened, and that they have the proof. Whether their claims are genuine or not is difficult to verify, but it certainly seems to fit the pattern of behavior which the US government is exhibiting towards Syria.
Hacked Emails
Cyber War News broke the story of a group of hackers who claimed to have obtained emails between top executives at the British defense firm Britam. In one of these emails the company’s business development director wrote:
“We’ve got a new offer. It’s about Syria again. Qataris propose an attractive deal and swear that the idea is approved by Washington,” wrote David Goulding to Phillip Doughty, according to the leak.
“We’ll have to deliver a CW to Homs, a Soviet origin g-shell from Libya similar to those that Assad should have. They want us to deploy our Ukrainian personnel that should speak Russian and make a video record,” Goulding wrote.
The abbreviation ‘CW’ stands for chemical weapons, and this seems to suggest that the US government, in cooperation with Qatar, were putting together a plan to deploy chemical weapons in Syria and record it on video.
Given that the deployment of chemical weapons represents the ‘red line’ which would trigger a US intervention, this would seem to be a ‘false flag’ attack in the planning, to justify sending American troops to Syria.
Why Would the US Want War in Syria?
Whilst it is impossible to verify whether the hacker’s intelligence is genuine, it certainly fits a pattern. The US has a strategic partnership in the Middle East with the Sunni Muslim ‘gulf kingdoms’ such as Saudi Arabia.
Syria, with Assad in charge, is part of a Shia alliance with Iran which opposes the influence of this Sunni / US alliance and prevents them gaining total dominance over the Middle East and its crucial oil reserves.
The geopolitics of the Middle East has been defined by this religious divide between Sunni and Shia for centuries, and the US government has simply seized on this fact as a tool to ‘divide and conquer’.
You can see the US government’s desire for regime change, and the fact that it is not just about supporting a democratic revolution, in the difference in approach which they have taken with Syria compared to peaceful pro-democracy uprisings in Sunni countries such as Bahrain.
Faked Intelligence
America has also proven that she is not above using nefarious means to attain this goal.
A well-publicized intelligence cable from late December, reported on in January first by Foreign Policy, claimed ‘credible evidence’ that chemical weapons had already been deployed by Assad.
This was later ripped apart in another Foreign Policy article and even the U.S. government itself publicly discounted the claims.
Apart from the fact that no pictures, witness accounts, or any other proof made it into the public arena, there is another very good reason to think that the cable was simply made up – the chemical weapon it claims was deployed (Agent 15) doesn’t even exist.
Agent 15 was part of the infamous false intelligence about WMDs in Iraq, and no reference to it can be found anywhere apart from in intelligence reports about Middle Eastern ‘regimes’ which the American government wants to topple.
Editor’s note: while the CIA concluded that Iraq never stockpiled or even weaponized Agent 15 and the claims that it was used in Syria are highly unlikely to say the least, the chemical 3-Quinuclidinyl benzilate, or BZ, does indeed exist. However, it is only thought to be related or identical to what is known as Agent 15 which may or may not even exist.
