New Jersey Man Dies After Police Dog Violently Attacks Him While He’s Pinned Down on the Ground
The hits just keep on coming. Less than an hour ago, I highlighted the latest case of an unarmed U.S. civilian killed unnecessarily by police in Oklahoma. In that incident, the cop claims to have mistakenly pulled out his gun instead of a taser.
Well it turns out another extremely disturbing video showcasing the recent epidemic of “death by civilian encounter with police” has surfaced. This time it’s a Vineland, New Jersey man. We see how Philip G. White is already pinned to the ground and repeatedly pounded on by a police officer, when he is then subjected to a sustained violent attack by a police dog. The man died in custody.

First, as reported by Gothamist:
A 32-year-old man was attacked by a police dog in New Jersey last month and died shortly thereafter. Video has now surfaced showing the man being bitten by the canine while pinned to the ground by cops during an arrest.
Cops claim that Vineland, NJ resident Phillip G. White, who died in custody on the way to a hospital on March 31st after the K-9 attack, had been acting erratically, and when officers tried to subdue him, he allegedly tried to grab one of their guns. Then, cops say they pinned him and were forced to unleash the dog on him. The attorney representing the two officers who arrested White say the victim was on drugs at the time, and claim he may have died as a result.
This is not what freedom looks like.

Another Police Killing Caught on Tape – Oklahoma Cop Shoots and Kills Unarmed Man in Tulsa
By Michael Krieger: Just last week, I highlighted the extremely disturbing case of how a North Charleston, South Carolina police officer shot an unarmed man eight times in the back as he was running away and then planted evidence near the dead body to cover up the crime. In case you missed it, see: South Carolina Cop to Be Charged with Murder for Shooting Man 8 Times in the Back as He Ran Away.
If you’re like me, you would’ve hoped for at least a brief reprieve between citizen deaths at the hands of U.S. police, but you’d be sorely disappointed. I suppose it’s just an unfortunate reality of life in a nation where American cops killed more civilians in March alone than UK police have killed in the past 100 years.
The most recent case is somewhat different than the South Carolina one, but equally disturbing. It involves 73-year old reserve officer Bob Bates, who says he accidentally pulled his gun instead of his taser. While his story seems believable for an old guy who doesn’t know what he’s doing, it doesn’t excuse the gross incompetence. Furthermore, the guy is running away and doesn’t appear to pose any threat to him.
Even worse, when other cops arrive at the scene, one of them slams his soon to be deceased head into the pavement with his knee. When the victim, Eric Harris screams: “Oh my God, I’m losing my breath,” an officer responds with “Fuck your breath.”
Indeed.
