Speaking on talkRADIO, Ms Bannett said: “We’re also seeing a really interesting case study in Shipley where Philip Davies, who’s infamous for his anti-female interventions in Parliament.”
But Hartley-Brewer cut the politician short and blasted: “No, no, no, I’m going to step in there, no, no, no, Natalie. I carry no torch for any political party or any particular MP but he’s not said anything anti-female.
“He’s just said that for instance, we should recognise male victims of things like domestic violence – that’s not anti-female.
“I care about people being beaten up whether they’re male or female, don’t you?”
Ms Bennett then accused the Tory MP of “filibustering” as she made the case for working with the Women’s Equality Party.

She said: “Well, what we can do is leave this to the voters of Shipley.
“Because there we have stood down in favour of the Women’s Equality Party leader who’s running very explicitly on the ticket [of] are the people of Shipley really satisfied with the way Philip Davies has been behaving in Parliament, filibustering, which is profoundly anti-democratic, and what they think about the things he’s been saying in Parliament.”
Mr Davies, , said: “The whole equality and diversity agenda, I always thought, was about making sure that minorities are protected just as much as the majority.”
He continued: “It doesn’t matter whether the victim’s a man or a woman, it doesn’t matter whether the perpetrator is a man or a woman, everybody should be treated the same, surely that’s the whole point of gender equality – everybody should be treated the same irrespective of their gender.”
