Jimmy Dore with Douglas Macgregor: The USS Gerald Ford carrier strike group is departing the Mediterranean and heading back to the United States, with official explanations citing a 30-hour laundry room fire that displaced 600 sailors and the ship's malfunctioning vacuum toilets—although Jimmy notes that the timing coincides with the embarrassing end to Trump's "Project Freedom" and seeing the pause as "a retreat dressed up as diplomacy."
Colonel Douglas Macgregor says that the Ford was "jerked" from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean for months for the Venezuela operation, then back to the Mediterranean, and by the time it returns home it will have been at sea for at least a year, leaving sailors exhausted, with many insisting they will never reenlist.
Macgregor suggests that sailors may have caused the toilet backups deliberately because the the Navy "doesn't treat people very well," though he notes this is not true of the aviation or submarine arms. Jimmy suggests that "the age of the super carrier has gone the same way as the battleship," and that one well-placed Iranian strike or even the credible threat of one can make the Navy's most expensive floating airfield turn tail and run.
