David Hearst, editor-in-chief of Middle East Eye, says that a dam has burst in British politics.
“For as long as anyone can remember, this dam has held back public opinion on Palestine,” says Hearst.
According to Hearst, the dam busters are Ed Miliband, the UK Foreign Secretary, and Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party, both Jewish, although the comparison stops there. Miliband and Polanski have very different outcomes in mind.
One believes in a two-state solution, while the other says the only way this conflict can be brought to an end is for Arabs and Jews to live together as equal citizens with equal rights in one state.
But in different ways, they are breaking a status quo that has lasted ever since Israel was created.
